How to find a production line operator: shifts, training, transport

Line, product, pace

A line operator watches over automated equipment: a bottling or packing line, an extruder, an injection moulding machine, a conveyor or a food processing line. They start and stop the line, check the settings, change the product format, check quality and clean up. Food production adds hygiene rules; in plastics and film there are temperature settings and machine adjustment.

Experience or training from scratch

Many factories hire people with no experience and train them on the spot, and this works well if the post says so honestly. For complex lines that need changeovers, look for people with experience on similar equipment. Don't promise “easy work”: an operator stands for most of the shift and is responsible for line downtime, and this should be said in advance.

Another detail is the pace. Say whether the line runs non-stop, whether there is manual work at the belt, and how many people look after one line. It helps the candidate picture the shift without any gloss.

What to put in the job post

  • Type of line — bottling, packing, extruder, conveyor;
  • Production — food, drinks, plastics, building materials;
  • Duties — setting up, starting and monitoring, format changes, cleaning;
  • Hours and shifts — day, night, 12-hour shifts;
  • Pay — rate, bonuses, night allowance;
  • City and area — where the plant is;
  • Experience — required, or training on the job;
  • Terms and transport — company bus or travel allowance.

Example: “Line operator needed in Kowloon for a bottling line at a food plant. Setting up and monitoring the line, 12-hour shifts, from HK$1,900 a month, on the payroll, company transport. No experience needed, we train.”

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You create one job request instead of answering dozens of calls. It is checked and you get hints on missing details. Candidates from your area answer in chat: experience, joining dates, expected pay. Reviews help you compare. Contacts stay hidden until you choose someone. More about the service.

What to look at when selecting

Ask about readiness for shift work and night shifts. For food lines, check for a medical fitness certificate. Ask about earlier line jobs and the reasons for leaving. Look for attention and the ability to react quickly to faults: an operator who spots deviations in time saves the plant from rejects. In the same plant you may also need a general labourer or an order picker.

Questions and answers

Can I hire a line operator without experience?

Yes, many factories train on the spot. Say so in the post, and write how long the training lasts and whether it is paid.

Which salary should I state if there are bonuses?

Write the base rate, and separately the terms of bonuses and night allowances. This way the candidate sees the real picture, not an unexplained range.

Is a medical fitness certificate needed?

For food and pharmaceutical production, as a rule, yes. State it in the post, and who arranges the paperwork.

Does the employer pay to search on BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for the person who posts the request. Contacts are opened only to the candidate you choose.
