What wood needs protection from
In warm, humid places wood faces damp, termites, fungus and strong sun. During the rainy season untreated timber swells, rots or grows mould, and termites can destroy it from the inside. The right product depends on where the wood is used and what you want to protect it from.
Main kinds
- Anti-termite and preservative treatments. They soak into the wood and protect against insects and rot. Used for structural timber and frames.
- Fungicides. Against mould and blue stain on stored or damp timber.
- Wood stains and oils. They protect and show the grain, often for doors and furniture.
- Varnish, lacquer and sealers. A hard surface layer for floors and furniture.
- Exterior coatings with UV protection for gates, decks and window frames.
