How to find a coworking space: hot desk, fixed desk or private cabin
First decide the format of the workplace
You can take very different things in a coworking space. A hot desk is a free seat at a table with no fixed place: the cheapest option, but today there may be no seat near a window or a socket. A fixed desk is your own table, where you can leave your things. A private cabin is for a team that needs quiet and confidentiality. There are also meeting rooms by the hour and a virtual office, when you need only a registered address.
The format also decides how the money is counted: by the hour, by the day or by the month. For regular work, a monthly rent for a fixed desk is usually cheaper than daily hot-desk passes, but it is better to work it out for your own schedule.
What to put in your request
- area — city, locality or a landmark, for example near the metro;
- type of seat — hot desk, fixed desk, cabin, meeting room or virtual office;
- term — an hour, a day, a month or longer;
- number of people — for a cabin, the size of the team matters;
- access hours — ordinary hours or round the clock, weekends;
- conditions — a generator or other power backup, fast internet with a backup line, a kitchen, lockers, parking;
- budget — if you want to name one.
Example: “Looking for a fixed desk in a coworking space in Kuala Lumpur, for 3 months from 1 November. I need round-the-clock access, power backup and a backup internet line, preferably a locker. Budget up to RM 330 a month.”
What to ask the operator
Sometimes not everything is in the price. Check whether printing, meeting-room hours, tea and coffee and parking are charged separately. Ask what happens during a power cut: whether sockets and the router keep working, whether the generator covers the whole space, whether there is a second internet provider. Ask for a trial day or a tour at the time when you will be working: you will see at once the level of noise and how busy it is. For video calls it matters whether there are rooms for calls, and not only open space.
If you need the coworking space to register a business or a company, ask separately whether a registered address is provided and whether you can receive post there.
How it works through BlaBlaPrice
You write one request in your own words, and owners and operators of coworking spaces in your city reply with offers in the chat: what they offer, the price, the terms, photos of the space. BlaBlaPrice shows the offer that is best on the merits first, and operators see where they stand among the others and may improve their terms. Contacts stay hidden until you choose an option. More: how it works.
If you need more room, look at offices to rent, and for one-off meetings and shoots at hourly hire of halls and studios.
