Legal services: how to find a lawyer or lawyer at a good price

First decide the area of law

A lawyer for “every case” is rare, and a good specialist in family matters does not always know commercial law better. So at the start name the field: family law, property, inheritance, accidents, contracts, business. If you are in doubt, describe the matter in plain words, and the providers will tell you which of them fits.

On BlaBlaPrice you don't phone law firms, you describe the question once. Lawyers reply with offers in the chat, with a price or a description of what it depends on. It is free for the customer.

What to include in your request

  • Area of law — family, criminal, accidents, property, inheritance, contracts, business.
  • What you need — a consultation, drafting documents, representation in court, registration.
  • The matter — briefly, what happened and what stage it is at: before court, first hearing, appeal.
  • City — of the court or the meeting place.
  • Deadlines — the hearing date, a filing deadline, an urgent question.
  • Format — an online consultation or a meeting in person.
  • Experience — whether you need an enrolled lawyer, and practice in similar cases.
  • Budget — if you want to name one.

Example request

“Johor Bahru. I need a consultation with a lawyer on a family matter: divorce with division of property, there are two children. Hearing on 15 October. Online consultation, then possibly representation in court. I need a lawyer enrolled with the Bar Council. Budget up to RM 980.”

Lawyer or lawyer: what is the difference

A lawyer advises, drafts documents and handles matters. A lawyer is enrolled with a Bar Council and has the right to appear in court on your behalf. For a criminal case or a court hearing you need a lawyer, while for a consultation or a contract a lawyer is often enough. If you aren't sure, write that in your request.

How to compare offers

  • Whether the price covers a consultation, preparing documents and appearing at hearings.
  • What the payment structure is: fixed, hourly or by stage.
  • Whether an agreement with a description of the work is drawn up.
  • What experience there is in similar cases.

The platform shows first the offer that is best by content, and reviews of the provider are shown next to each one. Lawyers see where their offer stands and can improve their terms. Contacts are given only to the one you choose. More on the “How it works” page.

Common mistakes

Delaying getting advice: in many matters strict deadlines apply. Paying without an agreement and without a description of what exactly the lawyer will do. Expecting a guaranteed result: an honest professional guarantees the work, not the court's decision.

There are separate categories for narrow questions: inheritance and probate and court representation. If the question concerns children or marital property, you will need a family lawyer, and for transactions a notary. An overview of the areas is in the section “Legal help”.

Questions and answers

What is the difference between a consultation and full support?

A consultation is a review of your situation with advice, while full support is work on the matter through to a result. Say in your request which one you need.

How do I know a lawyer is right for me?

See whether the offer fits your matter, and look at the reviews next to it. In the chat you can ask clarifying questions before you choose.

Can I get a consultation online?

Yes, many lawyers advise remotely. Give the format in your request and providers will confirm.

Does the customer pay BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for customers. The lawyer pays a small fee only when you choose them.
