Grain and oilseed crops: prices per tonne from buyers and sellers

First decide whether you are buying or selling

In the grain market a request can go both ways. A farmer wants to sell sunflower or wheat and compare who will pay more. A processor, a feed mill or a livestock farmer is looking for the right crop in the right quantity. When you write your request, say at once: “will buy” or “will sell”. Then the right people will reply.

Quality is half the conversation about price

Wheat of one grade with acceptable moisture and feed-grade wheat cost differently, as does sunflower of different oil content or with a different share of impurities. Food, feed, seed and processing uses all have different requirements. A buyer usually goes by the lab analysis: moisture, test weight, protein, gluten, impurities, oil content.

If you have an analysis report, mention it or put a description in the request. If not, agree on analysis at acceptance and on how deviations will be calculated.

How a request works on BlaBlaPrice

You write a request in your own words: crop, grade, quantity, region, terms. You can add one photo of a sample or a document. The request is checked, and you are told what data is missing. There should be no contacts or advertising in the text.

Then the other parties reply in the chat: the price per tonne or what it depends on, terms of collection or delivery, payment. Each one sees where their offer ranks, and the terms often improve. The offer with the best overall terms is shown first, with reviews next to it. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a partner. More details: how it works.

What to put in your request

  • Buy or sell — will buy or will sell.
  • Crop — wheat, maize, barley, sunflower, soya, rapeseed.
  • Grade and quality — grade, moisture limit, protein, oil content, impurities.
  • Quantity — in tonnes, for example 20 t.
  • Region — state and district.
  • Delivery basis — collection from the farm, delivery to a warehouse or a port; FCA, CPT.
  • Purpose — food, feed, seed, processing.
  • Payment and tax — with or without tax, advance, payment after unloading.
  • Price per tonne, if you already have a benchmark.

Example: “Will buy 20 tonnes of feed-grade wheat, moisture up to 14%, collection from the farm in Madhya Pradesh. Payment by bank transfer with a proper tax invoice.”

How to compare offers

The same figure per tonne can mean different things. Check the basis: a price “from the field” is not the same as a price delivered to a warehouse. See who pays for drying, cleaning and logistics, who does the analysis and by what standards discounts for deviations are calculated. Clarify the tax: prices with and without it cannot be compared.

Payment terms also affect the real benefit: advance, payment on loading or after dispatch. With new counterparties it is better to split the payment into parts and sign a contract. Look at reviews of the seller and ask for documents for the lot.

Common mistakes

Not stating moisture and grade, then arguing about a discount. Not agreeing who takes on the transport. Comparing prices with different bases. Not putting the terms of the contract in writing when the lot is large.

If you are looking for containers for grain, see containers and packaging materials, and for farm machinery, fuel. The whole section: “Raw materials”.

Questions and answers

Can I post a request both to sell and to buy grain?

Yes. In the request write whether you are buying or selling, and give the crop, quantity and region. The right parties will reply.

Which quality indicators matter most?

It depends on the crop: for wheat, moisture, test weight, protein and gluten; for sunflower, moisture, oil content and impurities. State the ones that matter to you.

What is a delivery basis?

It sets to which place and at whose cost the lot is delivered: for example, collection from the farm or delivery to a warehouse. The price depends on the basis, so compare like with like.

Does everyone see my phone number?

No, contacts are hidden. Only the partner you choose gets them.
