How to find an insurance agent: motor, health, life
An agent is not always a full-time employee
An insurance agent most often works under an agency agreement or as a self-employed person, and income depends on sales. So decide the model before you search: a salary plus a commission on premiums, a pure commission, or training with a small fixed amount at the start. This decides who replies: experienced sellers look for a clear commission, and newcomers look for training and leads.
Motor insurance, third-party and comprehensive, is sold at a company office, a car showroom or a service centre, and it needs speed and the ability to handle a stream of customers. Health and life insurance need long conversations, trust and product knowledge. Home and travel insurance often go as add-on sales to the main products. Selling insurance also needs the agent to hold a valid licence, so mention it if you expect that from candidates.
Do not mix everything into one post: a person selling motor insurance in volume and a consultant for health insurance are different profiles.
What to put in the request
- Type of insurance — motor, health, life, home, travel.
- Income — a commission on premiums, a salary plus commission, an approximate monthly amount.
- Place of work — company office, a counter at a showroom or service centre, field sales or online.
- Client base — whether they need their own or the company provides leads. This is one of the main things candidates ask.
- Hours — fixed five days a week or free.
- City and area — where the agent will work.
- Experience — in insurance or sales, or “no experience, training given”.
- Terms — agency agreement, freelance or official employment.
Example request
“I am looking for an insurance agent for a company office in Auckland. Selling motor insurance, leads provided. Fixed pay plus 15% commission on sales, free hours, but presence in the office three times a week. Experience is not necessary, we provide training. Terms: agency agreement.”
How to find an agent through BlaBlaPrice
Instead of sending ads to sites and answering dozens of calls, you describe the job once. The request is checked for ads and contacts, hints are given on what is missing from the text, and it is shown to candidates in your region. They write to the chat themselves: what experience they have, how much they are ready to work and what income they expect.
BlaBlaPrice shows the strongest replies first, and the reviews of each candidate are visible next to it. Contacts open only to the one you choose, so there are no calls from everyone. It is free for the employer. The general principle is described on the “How it works” page.
The most common mistake is to promise “unlimited income” and not say that the person will have to find clients on their own. Another mistake is to hide that pay is only from sales. An honest condition gets fewer replies, but from the people who will stay. If you also need a loan advisor, look at a loan officer.
For those looking for a job
Register as a service provider, choose the category and region, and you will receive job requests for insurance agents that you can reply to with your own experience. All related areas are gathered in the “Banking / finance / insurance / law” section.
