Jeep parts from breakers: Grand Cherokee, Wrangler and more
An American Jeep: what it means for parts
Many of the Jeeps on the road here are imports from the USA, often bought at auctions. That means American trim, and sometimes a history of accident repairs. Breakers who take them apart usually know which car a part came from, but they do not always say so. Ask directly.
One more thing: the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Compass or Cherokee come in different generations, and within one generation there are different engines, gearboxes and four-wheel-drive systems.
The transfer case: details you cannot skip
The transfer case is a typical part for the Grand Cherokee WK2, but it is exactly what causes the most confusion. Several variants were fitted to the model, and they differ in how they work and in ratios. Check it by VIN or number, not by model alone.
Ask the seller whether the transfer case came off a working car, whether there are leaks, noise or vibration, and whether the modes engage properly. Also find out whether the price includes the propeller shaft flanges, the shift motor and the sensors.
After replacing the transfer case it is worth changing the oil and checking the propeller shafts and seals, or the problem may come back. Ask the seller for a video of the donor car running. Trim matters too: Limited or Overland versions have different seats, lamps and trim pieces from the base ones.
What to put in your request
- Model and generation — for example, Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2;
- Part — the exact name of the unit;
- Year;
- Engine — size and fuel, for example 3.6 petrol;
- Side — for paired parts;
- Body colour;
- Condition — working, with a warranty for testing;
- VIN;
- Delivery city and budget.
Example: “Jeep Grand Cherokee WK2, 2014, 3.6 petrol, four-wheel drive. I need a transfer case, working, with no leaks, with a warranty for testing. I will send the VIN if the breaker has such a part. Courier delivery to Wellington. Budget up to $850.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe the part you need in a request on BlaBlaPrice, the text is checked, and the platform tells you what breakers will still need to know. Then sellers write to you in the chat: what they have in stock, for how much, how they will deliver. The best-value offer is shown first, with reviews of the seller next to it. You will not get calls from everyone: only the seller you choose sees your contacts. The way it works is laid out on the How it works page.
For other American makes, look at Dodge or Chrysler breakers, and for the full list go to the section of car breakers.
