Promoting products on online marketplaces: how to choose a specialist

What a marketplace specialist does

Every online marketplace has its own rules, but the idea is the same: your product has to be seen in search and in its category, and the listing has to convince people to buy. A specialist works on titles and descriptions, photos, specifications, on-platform advertising, prices, reviews and the store rating.

On many platforms, on-platform advertising is set up separately. But the tools and rules of each marketplace keep changing, so a good specialist will tell you the current ones.

What to put in your request

  • marketplace — the one you sell on or plan to join;
  • what you need — store setup, product listings, on-platform ads, improving rank, full management;
  • products — the niche and range, for example children's clothing;
  • number of products — how many listings to create or improve;
  • ad budget — per month, separate from the service;
  • goal — top positions, number of orders, sales growth;
  • state of the store — new or already running, whether it has a rating and sales;
  • payment for services — monthly or one-off.

Example: “A children's clothing store has been on a marketplace for a year with few sales. I need optimisation of 300 product listings and management of on-platform ads. Ad budget $420 a month, goal of 100 orders a month. Fee up to $320 a month.”

How to compare offers

One offer may cover only the design of listings, another full management with ads and analytics. So first find out the scope.

  • How many listings are in the price, and is there an extra charge for each?
  • Who makes the photos and descriptions, and do you need to supply your own materials?
  • How will the specialist handle ads: a fixed fee or a percentage of the budget.
  • What reporting do they give and which indicators do they track: positions, visits, orders.
  • Will you have access to the seller account so that you can see every change?

Common mistakes

Many sellers launch ads without fixing the listings: if the description is weak and the photos are poor, a click won't turn into an order. Another mistake is chasing positions without thinking of margin: higher ad spend can eat the profit. Agree with the provider on the indicators you will track and when you will review them.

If you need traffic from outside as well, see search ads, and for the text of the listings, copywriting.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You write one request and don't have to search for or phone providers. It is checked and you are told what to add. Marketplace specialists reply with offers in the chat: what they will do, the price or what it depends on, the timing. Providers see their position, so they often improve their terms. You pass your contacts only to the one you choose. Learn more on the “How it works” page.

Questions and answers

Can I promote a store on a marketplace without ads?

Partly. Good listings, prices and reviews also affect visibility. Ads usually speed up the result.

How many products do I need before approaching a specialist?

You can start from zero or with a few hundred listings. State the number in the request so providers can judge the scope.

Should I give the specialist access to my account?

Usually access to the seller account is needed. It is better to give separate access with limited rights if the marketplace allows it.

Who pays for on-platform advertising?

It is a separate ad budget that you pay to the platform. The specialist's fee is a separate amount.
