Massage: how to book a session or course with a trusted therapist
Which massage you actually need
Clients often ask simply for “a massage” and then wonder why the offers look so different. Classic massage relaxes and improves circulation, therapeutic massage targets a problem such as back or neck pain, lymphatic drainage helps with swelling, anti-cellulite massage works on body areas, and children’s massage uses completely different techniques.
If you have a diagnosis, for example a disc bulge or herniation, or pain that has lasted a long time, it is doubtful to start with just any massage. It is better to talk to a doctor first. Massage has contraindications, and an honest therapist will ask about them.
What to write in your request
- Type of massage — classic, therapeutic, lymphatic drainage, Thai, children’s.
- Area — back, neck and shoulders, legs or the whole body.
- Number of sessions — one visit or a course, for example 10 sessions.
- Duration — 30, 60 or 90 minutes.
- Health — diagnoses, pain, contraindications.
- For whom — woman, man, child with age.
- Home visit — whether you need the therapist to come to you.
- Area and the therapist’s experience, for example medical training.
- Budget per session.
Example: “I am looking for a therapeutic massage therapist for neck and shoulders, a course of 10 sessions of 40 minutes. I have a disc bulge and my lower back hurts. A therapist with medical training, Auckland, in the evenings, up to $25 per session.”
How to compare offers
A price per session without the duration says nothing, so always compare minutes. Ask whether a course is cheaper, and whether the price is fixed or depends on the area. A therapist who comes to your home may charge extra for travel, and may bring their own massage table or ask you to prepare a firm bed.
- Training and certificates: medical training is especially valuable for therapeutic massage.
- Oils and materials: whether they are included in the price, and whether there is any allergy.
- Cancellation and rescheduling rules.
Common mistakes
People pay for a course in advance from the first visit and are disappointed, without checking experience. They do not mention blood pressure, varicose veins, skin problems and pregnancy. They expect treatment “in one session” where a course is needed. It is better to start with one trial session and only then agree on a cycle.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe what kind of massage you need, and massage therapists in your area reply in chat with their own offers. Each can see where their offer ranks, so they often improve their terms. BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, reviews are visible alongside, and your phone number stays hidden until you choose a therapist. Details are on the “How it works” page.
