Motorcycle mirrors: how to choose and order at a good price

The thread decides everything

The most common mistake when buying motorcycle mirrors is to ignore the thread. Most motorcycles have M10, but some scooters and Japanese models use M8, and the thread can be right-handed or left-handed. Usually the left mirror has a right-hand thread and the right mirror a left-hand one, but scooters and some motorcycles may be exceptions. So if you buy “universal” mirrors rather than ones for your model, be sure to check the thread on the old ones and write it in the request.

A separate option is bar-end mirrors: they attach to the end of the handlebar, not to the levers, and fit a different bore diameter.

Style and number

Original mirrors repeat the factory shape. Classic round ones look good on cafe racers and retro bikes, sporty ones are compact and aerodynamic. But a good-looking mirror also has to show the road: one that is too small and cut off at the edges creates a blind spot. Ask about the glass size and whether it is convex.

Whether you are buying a pair or one, say so, because the prices for one and for a set cannot be compared fairly.

What to put in your request

  • Motorcycle model — make and model, for example Triumph Bonneville T120.
  • Mounting — M8 or M10 thread, right or left, bar-end, fairing mount.
  • Style — original, classic round, cafe racer, sporty.
  • Quantity — a pair, or left or right separately.
  • Original or aftermarket — aftermarket is often cheaper.
  • Colour — chrome, black.
  • New or used.
  • Delivery city and budget.

Example: “I need a pair of round cafe racer mirrors, M10 thread, right-hand, black. Motorcycle Triumph Bonneville T120, aftermarket is fine. Delivery to Hamilton, budget up to $32.”

When comparing offers

Check the thread, the length of the stem and the diameter of the glass. Ask whether adapters and nuts are included, because without them the mirror will not fit on some models. For chrome ones, look at the quality of the plating: cheap plating soon goes cloudy and peels. Ask for a photo of the glass in real light to see the distortion. If you are replacing only one broken mirror, it is better to take one of the same shape and size, so the pair looks the same and your view behind does not change.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You create a request once, and sellers of motorcycle accessories answer in chat with prices and terms. They see where their offer stands among the others, so they try to improve the terms. Contacts stay hidden and are opened only to the seller you choose. More: how it works.

If you are sorting out the handlebar, also see phone holders: some attach to the mirror stem. Look for other parts in the “Motorcycle accessories” section.

Questions and answers

How do I find out the mirror thread?

Look at the mounting of the old mirror or in the bike's manual. Most often it is M10, on some scooters M8. If you are not sure, write the motorcycle model in the request.

Are the left and right mirrors the same?

Usually not: the thread can differ on each side. So say whether you need a pair.

Will universal mirrors fit?

They will, if the thread matches and they do not get in the way of steering. It is better to buy for the specific model.
