How to find an online store manager: order handling and the website
What exactly will an online store manager do
Very different roles hide behind this name. In one shop the person only processes orders and ships parcels by courier; in another they also fill the website with product listings, answer on messengers and run ads. Write down what the duties include, otherwise candidates will have to guess.
The number of orders a day sets the pace. Thirty orders need a different set-up than five, and this affects the pay and the hours.
How search works through BlaBlaPrice
You write one job request in your own words, and candidates answer in chat: they tell you about their experience, tools, when they are ready to start and the pay they expect. Before it is shown, the request is checked, ads and contact details are removed from the text, and you get hints on what to add.
Your number is hidden and goes only to the chosen candidate. The post is active for 7 days and can be extended or changed. It is free for the employer. More on the “How it works” page.
What to put in the job post
- Duties — order handling, courier dispatch, replies to customers, filling the website;
- Range — clothes, toys, spare parts, home goods;
- Number of orders — per day or per month;
- Pay — fixed pay, percentage of orders, whether there is a bonus;
- Place and hours — office or remote, 10 to 7;
- Terms — on the payroll, freelance or part-time;
- Experience — work with a CRM, marketplace seller panels, the website platform, accounting software.
Example: “Online store manager needed for a children's clothing shop, Auckland or remote. Handling 30 orders a day, courier dispatch, replies on Instagram and WhatsApp. Hours 10 to 7, pay $460 a month plus a percentage of orders, experience with a CRM and a marketplace seller panel.”
How to compare candidates
Ask which platforms and CRMs the person has used, how they catch mistakes in orders and what they do when a customer doesn't accept a parcel. A good candidate thinks in processes right away: payment, stock, tracking number, returns.
For remote work, speed of replies and self-organisation matter. You can give a short test task, for example processing three imaginary orders, and see how careful they are. Also agree on the limits of access to the shop and customer data.
Decide in advance who is responsible for returns and exchanges and how fast a customer must be answered on a messenger. In this job it is speed and accuracy that build the shop's reputation.
