How to find an industrial painter: powder coating, spraying, skills
An industrial painter and a building painter are different trades
In a factory a painter coats parts, structures or finished products: metal doors, frames, furniture fronts, equipment. Technology, surface preparation and an even coating matter here. A building painter who paints walls usually doesn't know powder coating or spray painting, so name your process clearly in the post.
The technology decides the person
Powder coating needs knowledge of the application booths and curing ovens; spray painting needs skill in choosing viscosity and settings; dip coating means working with tanks. Surface preparation (degreasing, treatment, sanding) often takes longer than the painting itself. Ask the candidate which technology they have used and whether they set up the equipment themselves.
What to put in the job post
- Type of painting — powder coating, spraying, dipping;
- What to paint — metal, wood, plastic, size of items;
- Skill level — for example formally trained;
- Experience — how many years, on which equipment;
- Hours — shifts and days off, for example two shifts, six days a week;
- Pay — monthly salary, piece rate, bonuses;
- Housing — whether it is provided for people from other places;
- Terms and city.
Example: “Painter needed in Hamilton for powder coating of metal products. formally trained, 1+ year of experience, two shifts, six days a week, on the payroll, from $460 a month, accommodation provided for people from outside the city.”

Safety and working conditions
Surface preparation before painting means degreasing, cleaning and drying, and it decides whether the coating lasts for years. So ask the candidate not only about the painting itself but also about how they prepare parts and check the thickness and evenness of the layer.
Paints and solvents are harmful, so the candidate should know what protection they will get: a respirator, work clothes, ventilation. Write honestly about this in the post, and about whether the booth has an extraction system and whether there is a separate room to store paints, because experienced professionals look at this. For related work in the workshop you may also need a welder or an assembler.
