Shaver, epilator or hair clipper: how to choose and buy
First, who it is for and what it is for
The right device depends on the job. For daily face shaving, electric shavers work well. Foil shavers suit sensitive skin and everyday use. Rotary shavers cope better with coarse stubble and suit people who shave less often. A trimmer is for beards and moustaches, and a hair clipper is for the hair on your head. An epilator pulls hair out from the root and is used on the body, legs and bikini line.
Professional use is a separate question. In a barbershop a clipper runs for hours, so you need a strong motor, reliable blades and a battery that does not die by lunchtime.
What to put in your request
- what exactly - a shaver, epilator, clipper, trimmer or spare parts: blades, heads, foils, guide combs;
- the model - the exact name of the device, or the device the part is for, for example Philips OneBlade;
- original or compatible - for blades and heads;
- how many in the pack - how many blades or combs;
- what for - face, beard, head, body; home or barbershop;
- features - wet and dry use, cordless, run time, number of combs;
- new or used - only for the devices themselves;
- warranty, delivery, budget.
Example: “I am looking for a new professional cordless hair clipper for a barbershop, with several combs and an official warranty. Courier delivery to Auckland. Budget up to $110.”
Replacement blades and heads
Many people buy spare parts rather than the device itself. Blades and foils wear out and should be changed as the maker recommends. Original parts cost more, but they fit exactly and are gentler on the skin. Reviews of the seller help you feel safe about quality. Compatible parts are cheaper, but quality varies. So give the exact model of your device in the request, or a seller may offer the wrong part.
When you compare offers, check how many blades are in the set: three blades at the price of one is not the same as one blade. For devices, ask about the warranty and service.
How search works on BlaBlaPrice
You write one request, and sellers reply in a chat with the model, what is included, the price and delivery. Each seller sees where their offer stands and can improve it. BlaBlaPrice shows the best offer by content first, with the seller's reviews right next to it. Your phone number stays hidden. You can read how it all works on the “How it works” page.
Common mistakes
People buy an epilator without thinking about the pain and are disappointed later. They pick cheap compatible blades that irritate the skin. They do not check whether the combs fit. For more grooming gear, see hair dryers and styling tools and electric toothbrushes and water flossers.
