Vending trailers: ready-made or custom, how to choose well
A business on wheels starts with the menu
A vending trailer is a coffee shop, a food truck, a fast-food stall or a shop counter on wheels. First decide what you will sell, because that decides the equipment. Takeaway coffee needs a coffee machine, a fridge and water, frying needs an exhaust hood, a hob and gas, and non-food retail needs display cases and shelves.
Also think about where you will stand. Fairs, festivals and city spots can have different rules on size, electricity and permits.
What to put in your request
- What for — coffee, fast food, desserts, clothes, other.
- Buy or order — a ready trailer or one made to order.
- Size — length and width, for example 3×2 m.
- Equipment — sink, electrics, water heater, fridge, hood, gas.
- Look — branding, colour, signboard, display window.
- Papers — registration certificate, possibility of registration.
- Condition — new or used.
- City and budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I need a new vending trailer for takeaway coffee, 3×2 m, with a sink, water heater, sockets and space for a coffee machine. Made to order with branding, registration papers in order. Wellington, budget up to $8,400.”
Ready-made or made to order
A ready-made trailer is quicker: you can see it in person. A made-to-order one gives you the layout and electrics you want, but takes time. Agree with the maker on the stages, deadlines, the sketch and how you pay, and also what happens if the size or equipment change.
The electrics, water and gas must be installed to safety standards, so ask the maker who does it and whether there is a wiring diagram. For food-safety licences and the rules for your selling spot, check with the relevant local offices and with the seller.
How to compare offers
- The same size and set of equipment.
- The water: storage tank, pump, heating.
- The electrics: power, protection, external connection.
- The inner finish: whether it can be washed and stands up to moisture.
- What the price includes: branding, delivery, registration.
The price changes most because of the equipment, not the body. So compare by the list, not by the total.
People often underestimate the requirements for the selling spot and the connections: electricity, water and drainage must be safe and convenient. There are also mistakes in working out the power: a coffee machine, a fridge and a water heater together make a big load. Another mistake is not leaving room for stock and waste. So draw up a list of equipment at once and show it to the sellers. Ask in advance whether the maker gives a warranty on the electrics and equipment, and who will service them after the trailer is handed over.
How searching works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe your idea in a request, and makers and sellers answer on their own: what they offer, the price, timing, photos. The request is checked, and you get hints on what is missing. The best-fitting offer is shown first, with reviews. Sellers see their place and can improve their terms. Contacts are opened only to the one you choose. Details are on the “How it works” page.
