Motorcycle & Scooter Battery: How to Buy at a Good Price

Battery code matters more than brand

A motorcycle battery is chosen by its code, not just by the model of the bike. A code like YTX9-BS or YTZ10S shows the case size, the capacity and the construction. Look at it on the old battery or in the manual. If you know only the model, for example Yamaha MT-07, the seller can pick an equivalent, but it is better to check it against the dimensions.

Check the polarity separately: on different models the positive terminal can be on the left or the right. A battery of the same size with mirrored terminals will not work, because the cables will not reach.

AGM, gel or lithium

AGM and gel batteries are maintenance-free and are not afraid of tilting and vibration. Ordinary lead-acid batteries need the electrolyte level checked. Lithium (LiFePO4) ones are much lighter, but they need a compatible charger, and they do not always suit an older regulator-rectifier. So in your request, say directly which type you need, or ask what the sellers would advise for your model.

One more detail: some batteries are sold “dry-charged” with a separate bottle of electrolyte, others are ready to install. Find out which one the offer is, and whether the filling is done before dispatch.

What to put in your request

  • battery code — the marking on the old battery, for example YTX9-BS;
  • bike model — make, model and year, if you do not know the code;
  • capacity and cranking current — for example 9 Ah and 120 A;
  • type — AGM, gel, lithium or lead-acid;
  • polarity — positive on the right or on the left;
  • brand — if you have a preference;
  • new or used, delivery city and budget.

Example: “I need a new AGM battery YTX9-BS for a Yamaha MT-07, positive on the right, 9 Ah, preferably Yuasa or similar quality. Courier delivery to Davao City, budget up to ₱3,000.”

How to compare offers

  • Manufacture date: a battery that sat in a warehouse for a long time loses part of its life. Ask when it was made.
  • The real capacity and cranking current in each offer, not just the word “equivalent”.
  • Whether there is a warranty and on what terms it applies.
  • Whether the electrolyte and the filling are included in the price.

Sellers on BlaBlaPrice can see where their offer stands, and often improve the price or terms to win the request. You write once and the replies come to the chat; the site shows the best-value one first, with the seller’s reviews beside it. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a seller.

Common mistakes

People buy a battery that is “roughly the same” and then find it is a centimetre wider. Or they ignore the manufacture date. Or they fit a more powerful lithium battery without checking the charging from the generator. If the bike still starts sluggishly after the replacement, look for the cause in the generator or the regulator-rectifier, not in the new battery. If you store the bike for a long time, take the battery out and top it up every few weeks. Next to this section you will find other motorcycle parts.

Questions and answers

How do I find out which battery my motorcycle needs?

The most accurate way is the marking on the old battery, for example YTX9-BS. If it is missing, write the make, model and year of the bike, and sellers will suggest an option.

How is AGM different from a lithium battery?

AGM is cheaper and does not need special charging. Lithium is lighter but needs a compatible charger. For older bikes AGM is the more common choice.

What should I look at when buying a battery online?

The manufacture date, capacity, cranking current, polarity and warranty. Also ask whether it is filled and ready to install.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for buyers. A seller pays a small fee only when you choose that seller.
