Car alarm and electronics installation: how to order at a good price
Start with what you want to protect the car from
An alarm, an immobiliser, a GPS tracker and a dashcam solve different problems. An alarm scares and alerts, an immobiliser blocks the start, a tracker helps you find the car, and cameras record an event. A combination often works best, and a specialist can suggest options for your budget.
For remote start, how the engine starts matters. A key or a Start-Stop button need different wiring. The type of gearbox matters too: on a manual, remote start needs extra safeguards so that the car does not move off, while on an automatic it is simpler.
What to put in your request
- what to fit — an alarm with or without remote start, an immobiliser, a tracker, a camera, a stereo, parking sensors;
- make, model and year of the car — access to the digital CAN bus depends on it;
- type of start — key or Start-Stop button;
- type of gearbox — manual or automatic;
- features — phone control over GSM, GPS, a two-way fob, shock and tilt sensors;
- whose equipment — your own, or from the installer;
- city, timing and budget.
Example: “Kia Seltos 2021, Start-Stop button, automatic. I need an alarm with remote start, phone control and GPS; I have the equipment already. Cebu City, this week. Budget up to ₱6,000 including fitting.”
How installers reply through BlaBlaPrice
You write your request on BlaBlaPrice once, and car electronics installers offer their terms in the chat: the kit, the price for fitting, timing, warranty. The site compares the replies by substance and puts the best one first. Each installer sees their place, so they compete on terms. Your phone and messenger are seen only by the one you choose.
What to look at in the offers
- whether there is a separate price for the equipment and for the work, especially when the kit is yours;
- how the installer connects it: twisted joints or soldering with insulation, and whether there is protection against battery drain;
- whether a hidden “kill switch” is fitted and where it is hidden;
- whether there is a warranty on the installation, separate from the manufacturer's warranty on the device;
- whether you are given the settings and access to the app in your own name.
What else affects the price
The cost of the work depends on how deeply the interior has to be taken apart. Remote start integrated through the CAN bus is fitted faster than on an older car where every circuit is connected separately. Extra functions, such as controlling the windows or folding the mirrors, increase the amount of work. Ask separately about fitting a tracker, because it should be hidden so that a thief does not find it.
Before the work, clarify the timing: a simple alarm takes a few hours, while a full set with cameras and remote start may take a day or more.
Common mistakes
The main mistake is to buy an expensive device and leave the installation to a random mechanic: a drained battery often comes from poor connection. Another is to forget about compatibility with the factory alarm and the standard stereo, and not to ask the installer for a wiring diagram. If faults appear after fitting, auto electrical repair or car computer diagnostics will help. More services are in the section “Car & motorcycle servicing”.
