How to Buy Car Tyres at a Good Price: Summer, Winter, All-Season

Start with the size and the type

The tyre size is printed on the sidewall in a format like 205/55 R16: width in millimetres, profile as a percentage of the width, and rim diameter in inches. These three numbers must match what the carmaker allows, or you knowingly choose a permitted alternative size. The factory values are usually printed on a sticker on the door pillar or in the manual.

Next, the type. In most of Pakistan, ordinary road or all-season tyres are enough, and grip on wet roads matters most in the rainy season. Winter tyres are worth considering only for snowy mountain roads: they wear quickly in the heat. For the mountains, also ask the seller whether you need studded or non-studded tyres: non-studded ones are more convenient in town, studded ones work on ice and out of town.

What else to read on the sidewall

The load and speed index, for example 94V, must not be lower than the car requires. The XL mark means a reinforced tyre, which heavier cars need. The manufacturing date is coded in four DOT digits: the first two are the week, the last two the year. Tyres that lay in a warehouse for years age even without mileage, so it is sensible to write “not older than 2025” in your request.

How to compare offers

The same number can hide different terms. Make sure all the offers have the same size, indexes, year of manufacture and number of tyres. Look separately at whether delivery, fitting and balancing are included in the price, or whether it is rubber only. Some sellers give a discount on fitting at their own service centre, and it is easy to miss if you only look at the price per tyre.

Through BlaBlaPrice you do not phone depots: you write one request, and tyre sellers reply in the chat with price, availability and terms. They see where their offer stands, so they often improve their terms. The platform shows the best-value offer first, with seller reviews beside it. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a seller yourself. Details are on the How it works page.

What to put in your request

  • size — for example 205/55 R16, or the car model and year if you are not sure;
  • type — summer or touring, all-season, winter for the hills;
  • quantity — a set of 4, a pair or a single tyre;
  • new or used — for used, give the minimum tread left;
  • brand or model — if you have already chosen;
  • indexes — load and speed, XL if needed;
  • year of manufacture — “not older than…”;
  • fitting — needed or not;
  • city and budget, if you want to name one.

Example: “I need a set of new all-season tyres 205/55 R16, 94V, not older than 2025. Brand — Michelin, Continental or similar. Islamabad, fitting with balancing needed. Budget up to Rs 120,000 for the set.”

Common mistakes

A common mistake is buying just one replacement tyre when the others on the axle have different wear or a different model: the car then handles unpredictably. Another is going for the lowest price without asking about the year of manufacture. A third is forgetting that a second set, say for hill trips, needs its own rims or ready complete wheels, otherwise you will pay for fitting twice a year.

If your budget is tight, you can consider used car tyres, but then condition, year and repairs matter.

Questions and answers

How do I find out my tyre size?

Look at the sidewall of your current tyre, the sticker on the driver's door pillar or the car manual. If in doubt, write the make, model and year in your request.

Can I fit tyres of a different size?

Sometimes, if the overall wheel diameter hardly changes and the tyre clears the wheel arches. Check with the seller or the fitting centre before you buy.

Why do tyres of the same size differ so much in price?

Brand, model, year of manufacture, indexes and country of manufacture all differ. That is why it helps to state your requirements, not only the size.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for buyers. A seller pays a small fee only when you choose them.
