Garden furniture for a lawn or terrace: how to choose and not overpay
Where it will stand, what it is made of and who uses it
This is the first question, and it decides the material. For an open space, where furniture gets wet and dries again, the good choices are synthetic rattan on an anodised aluminium frame, teak and other moisture-resistant woods, and powder-coated metal. For a closed terrace or a covered veranda you can take less resistant materials. Cheap plastic and uncoated iron age quickly in sun and rain, and the rainy season is hard on them.
- Synthetic rattan — light, does not rot, looks tidy; look at the thickness and quality of the weave.
- Wood — pleasant, but needs yearly care with oil or varnish.
- Metal — strong, but heats up in the sun and needs protection from rust.
- Plastic — inexpensive and mobile, but less durable.
- Pallets — for home-made and budget projects.
Furniture for a cafe or a hotel terrace has to stand up to heavy use, so it is usually stronger and heavier, and the warranty is often arranged differently. If you are ordering for a business, write this in your request and sellers will offer commercial ranges.
How it works with BlaBlaPrice
Garden furniture is sold by shops and makers, and prices and quality vary. You write one request, and sellers reply in the chat: what is in the set, materials, price, photos, delivery. They can see where their offer stands and can improve their terms. It is free for the buyer, and only the one you choose sees your contacts. More: how it works.
What to put in your request
- What exactly — dining set, lounge sofa, sun lounger, swing, bench, hanging chair, table and chairs.
- Material — synthetic rattan, wood, metal, plastic.
- Number of seats.
- What is included — cushions, covers, canopy, table.
- What for — a private garden or a business, open or covered area.
- Colour of the frame and cushions.
- New or second-hand.
- City and budget.
Example: “I need a new synthetic rattan set: a table and 4 chairs with cushions, graphite with beige, for an open terrace. Karachi, delivery. Budget up to Rs 130,000.”
What to look at in offers, and which mistakes to avoid
Ask about the frame: aluminium does not rust, steel needs a good coating. For rattan, ask what the weave material is and whether it has UV protection. Cushions should be made of fabric that dries fast and does not fade; ask whether the covers come off for washing. Check whether rain covers are included and whether assembly is needed: sets often come in parts.
The best time to buy is before the season, when demand is highest and the choice is wider. If you are looking at the end of the season, sellers may have leftover stock, so compare what is available.
The most common mistakes:
- Taking indoor furniture for outdoors.
- Not thinking about storage in the rainy season: whether the set comes apart, whether there is a cover.
- Comparing a "set" without a list of items (cushions, table).
- Not checking the size of the terrace.
