Hat, scarf and glove sets: how to put together a warm set
What a set includes
A “set” can mean a pair (hat and scarf) or a trio (hat, scarf or snood, gloves). There are also sets with a hat and gloves but no scarf, and for toddlers, a hat, a neck warmer and mittens that do not get lost. So say first what exactly is in it: the word “set” with no list gets you offers that differ in content.
Check also that the pieces match in fabric and colour. With a set assembled piece by piece, shades often differ, while in a factory set the yarn comes from one batch.
Children's set: size and comfort
For a child, go by head circumference: for 5-year-olds it is usually around 50–52 cm, but a measurement is more accurate than age. When buying with room to grow, don't go too big: a hat that slides over the eyes is annoying. Look for a soft fleece or cotton lining so the wool does not itch, flat seams, and gloves with a long elastic cuff. For little ones, mittens on a string through the sleeves or with a short strap are handy.

How to compare offers
Two offers at the same price can differ a lot in composition. Read the composition: a blend with acrylic and pure merino wool are different things in warmth and feel. Ask whether there is a lining, whether the gloves are water-repellent, and whether you can swap the size if the set does not fit.
If you are buying sets for a school, a nursery or a team, state the quantity and colours at once: a seller may give a better price for a batch.
