Used Volvo parts: XC90, XC60, S60 and control units

Engine control unit and key: buy only as a set

In a Volvo XC90 with the 2.4 D5 diesel the engine electronics are linked to the immobiliser and the key. If you buy only a control unit from another car, it may not work with your key or may need recoding. That is why many people take the unit together with the key and ignition lock from the same donor. Ask about this in advance, both the seller and the mechanic who will fit the part.

Also match the unit number: different software versions were fitted to different engines and years.

What to ask the seller

Was the unit removed from a working car, what mileage did the donor have, and could it be tested? Is the full part number and the software version given? Is there a photo of the plate on the body? Does the price include the wiring set and the key, and can the part be returned if it does not fit? Agree on timing separately: electronic parts are often made to order.

What to put in your request

  • Model and generation — for example, Volvo XC90;
  • Part — control unit, key, immobiliser and so on;
  • Year;
  • Engine — for example, 2.4 D5, and the gearbox;
  • Side — for parts that come in pairs;
  • Colour — for body parts;
  • Condition — working, with a warranty on testing;
  • VIN;
  • Delivery city and budget.

Example: “Volvo XC90, 2010, 2.4 D5, automatic. I need an engine control unit together with the key and ignition lock from the same donor, with a warranty on testing. I will give the VIN. Courier delivery to Islamabad. Budget up to Rs 100,000.”

How to compare offers

One seller sells only the unit, another a set with the key, a third promises “it will fit” without a number. Check like with like. A cheaper unit without recoding may cost more at the workshop. Ask your mechanic what exactly your car needs, and write it in the request.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You describe the part once on BlaBlaPrice, and breakers reply in the chat with a price, photos and terms. The platform shows the best-value offer first, with seller reviews beside it. Sellers can see their place and may improve the price or the warranty. Your phone stays hidden until you choose. Read more on the “How it works” page.

Look for other brands in the car breakers section, for example Ford, which Volvo was once in the same group with.

Questions and answers

Can I fit a control unit from another Volvo?

Only if the number and version match yours, and usually it needs recoding. Check this with your mechanic.

Why buy the key together with the unit?

The immobiliser is linked to the electronics. A set from one car makes starting easier.

What warranty should I ask for on electronics?

At least on testing after fitting. Agree the terms in the chat before paying.

How are electronic units shipped?

Usually by courier in protective packing. The seller will write the cost.
