Fresh milk, paneer, butter, eggs: how to arrange regular delivery
Freshness matters most
Dairy and eggs spoil quickly, so the main thing is not the price but how fast the product reaches you. That is why the area and the regularity are the most important parts of your request: farmers deliver along set routes, and it is easier when you fit into their schedule.
Farm-fresh or packaged
Fresh milk from a cow, buffalo or goat, plus home-made paneer, yoghurt and ghee, have their own taste and usually a shorter shelf life. Packaged dairy is more consistent and pasteurised. If you buy raw milk, especially for children, it is normal to boil or pasteurise it, and it is worth discussing safety with a doctor. Ask the farmer how the animals are kept and whether the milk is tested.
Cheese, fat content, eggs
- The fat content of milk and yoghurt affects both taste and price; say what you need.
- Hard cheeses are defined by ageing, for example several months. Fresh paneer, cottage cheese and aged cheese are completely different products.
- Eggs come as hen or quail, in different size grades. Ask whether they are farm eggs or from a poultry unit, and when they were laid.
- Butter and ghee differ in fat content: traditional butter usually has a higher percentage.
What to put in your request
- what exactly — milk, paneer, cheese, yoghurt, butter, ghee, eggs;
- quantity — litres, kilograms or dozens of eggs per order;
- farm or packaged — cow, buffalo or goat;
- fat content or type — cheese ageing, egg grade;
- regularity — one-off, daily or weekly;
- packaging — glass bottles, vacuum packs, trays;
- city and area for delivery or pick-up;
- budget, for example up to R 16 per litre.
Example: “Looking for fresh farm goat milk, 3 L every week, in glass bottles. Johannesburg. Budget up to R 16 per litre.”
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You describe what you need on the home page, and sellers from your city and area reply in the chat with offers: what exactly, the price, when and where they will deliver. For food, place matters, so your request goes to those who can really deliver. The best offer by content is shown first, and seller reviews help you choose.
Sellers see their place among the others and compete for your request. Your number stays hidden until you choose a seller; you share your phone or messenger only with them. See the How it works page.
How to compare
Look at the price per litre, not per bottle, and at whether delivery is included. Ask about the schedule: can you pause the order while you are away? Agree on a trial delivery before a regular one, so you can judge freshness. For a cafe or shop, ask for the paperwork.
From the same section it is worth a look at meat and poultry and vegetables, fruit, berries and mushrooms.
