How to Buy a Graphics Card: New or Used, for Games, Rendering or AI

Choose a graphics card for the task, not for fashion

First write down what you will demand from the card. For 1080p games a mid-range card is enough; for 1440p and 4K you need a more powerful model with more memory. For video editing and 3D rendering, both the amount of video memory and support in your programs matter. AI tasks often run into the amount of VRAM, not just speed, so 12 GB and more is no longer a luxury there. Name specific games or programs in your request: it helps sellers suggest a suitable card.

Will it fit and will the power supply cope?

The most common problem found after purchase is that the card does not fit in the case or the power supply is too small. Measure the free length in your case, check how many power connectors the supply has and what its wattage is. Ask the seller what minimum power supply the maker recommends for this model. Also check that the processor won't hold it back: a CPU that is too weak will not unlock an expensive card.

New or used: what to watch

A used card can be a good deal, but the risk is higher. Ask whether it was used for mining, whether it was reflashed, whether the thermal paste and pads were replaced, and how the temperatures behave under load. Ask for screenshots of tests and a video of it running. Check there are no artefacts and that the fans aren't noisy. A shop warranty on a used card does happen, and it's a big plus. A new card with an official warranty costs more, but gives less headache.

What to put in your request

  • graphics card model: for example RTX 4070 Super or RX 7800 XT, or describe the task;
  • what for: games with the resolution and fps you want, rendering, AI;
  • video memory: in GB;
  • new or used: and whether a mining or repair history is acceptable;
  • warranty: official or shop, and for how long;
  • compatibility with your PC: power supply wattage, case length, processor, motherboard;
  • maker: for example MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte;
  • delivery and budget.

Example: “I'm looking for an RTX 4070 Super 12 GB for 1440p gaming, new or used but not from mining, with a warranty of 6 months or more. Power supply 650 W, case length up to 32 cm. Courier delivery to Durban, budget up to R 11,000.”

How search works on BlaBlaPrice

Instead of scrolling through listings, you write one request on BlaBlaPrice. Sellers of components reply in the chat: which card, what condition, price, warranty, delivery. They see their place among the others and adjust their terms. The best-value offer is shown first, with reviews of the seller next to it. Your phone number is hidden, and it is free for buyers. Questions and answers

Is it safe to buy a used graphics card?

It can be, if the seller is ready to show tests and give a warranty. Ask about the mining history, repairs and thermal interface replacement.

How much video memory do I need?

For Full HD games, usually less; for 1440p and 4K, rendering and AI tasks, get more. Name your task and sellers will advise.

How do I know the card will fit my PC?

State your power supply wattage, case length and processor. The seller will tell you whether there is a risk of too little space or power.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, the service is free for buyers.
