Motorcycle Rainwear: Suit, Trousers or Boot Covers — How to Choose
A rain suit is not just a raincoat
Motorcycle rainwear works in different conditions from an ordinary raincoat. You pull it on over your riding gear, the wind hits it at speed, and you sit in it for hours. That is why a plain poncho is a poor choice: it flaps, balloons and can wrap around the wheel or chain.
The main options are a two-piece suit (jacket and trousers), a one-piece overall, a jacket or trousers on their own, and boot covers. A two-piece set is more practical because it is easier to put on and take off. A one-piece goes on faster in a single move, but it is awkward at a toilet stop or a coffee break.
Material, size, visibility
- PVC: cheap and keeps water out well, but it rustles, does not breathe and wears out at the folds.
- Coated nylon: lighter and more compact, but you need taped seams.
- Breathable membrane fabric lets sweat out, though it costs more. This matters in the humid rainy season.
- Size: choose a suit that fits over your riding jacket and trousers. That usually means one or two sizes bigger than your normal clothes.
- Bright colour and reflective strips help in rain and at dusk, when visibility is poor.
What to put in your request
- What exactly — jacket with trousers, overall, jacket or trousers only, boot covers.
- Size — and whether it must fit over a riding jacket.
- Reflective elements — bright colour, strips.
- Material — PVC, nylon, membrane.
- Quantity — number of sets.
- Brand, for example Oxford.
- New or used, delivery city, budget.
Example: “I need a rain suit (jacket + trousers), size XL, to wear over a riding jacket. Bright yellow with reflective strips, nylon with taped seams. New. Delivery to Cape Town, budget up to R 490.”
What to check before you buy
Ask for photos of the seams from the inside: taped seams are more reliable than plain stitched ones. Find out about cuffs at the wrists and ankles, a strap to hold the trousers down and wind flaps on the fasteners. Ask what the set includes and whether there is a pouch: it should be easy to fit into a top box or under the seat. Choose boot covers with a tough or non-slip sole, because thin ones tear quickly on the pedals.
One more tip: a rain suit does not replace waterproof riding gear, it only adds to it. Put it on early, when the rain starts, not after you are already soaked, and keep a spare pair of gloves. Also look at the length of the jacket: it should cover your waist and not ride up on the seat.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You write one request, and sellers reply in the chat with prices and terms. They can see where their offer stands among the others, so they try to improve their terms. Contacts are hidden and opened only to the one you choose. More in how it works.
