Used Peugeot parts: the 1.6 HDi turbocharger and more

The turbocharger: the engine decides everything

A Peugeot 308, 407 or Partner with the 1.6 HDi diesel has a turbocharger that depends on the engine’s output and the year. The 1.6 HDi engine exists in several versions, and their turbochargers differ. So do not rely on “it will fit, it is from a Peugeot”: you need the exact engine variant.

The 1.6 HDi diesels are shared with Citroen, so sellers sometimes offer turbochargers “from a Citroen”. That can be a fine option, but check compatibility by the part number.

How to judge a used turbocharger

Ask about the donor’s mileage, the state of the shaft (is there any play?), whether there is oil in the pipes and whether the blades are damaged. An honest seller sends photos from all sides. Also find out whether the turbo comes with the actuator (the control valve) and whether it was tested.

When comparing offers, tell a used turbocharger from a reconditioned one: on a reconditioned one the cartridge was replaced. The price difference is usually explained by exactly that.

Before replacing it, find out why the turbocharger failed. If the cause is dirty oil or a faulty oil feed, a new turbocharger will repeat the story. That is why mechanics often advise changing the oil and filter and checking the pipes along with it. Ask too whether gaskets and fixings are in the offer. If you need other engine parts besides the turbocharger, you can add them to the same request: a seller often gives better terms on several items at once.

What to put in your request

  • Model — for example, Peugeot 308;
  • Part — turbocharger, alone or with pipes;
  • Year;
  • Engine — for example, 1.6 HDi, and its output;
  • Side — for parts that come in pairs;
  • Colour — for body parts;
  • Condition — working, with a warranty on testing;
  • VIN;
  • Delivery city and budget.

Example: “Peugeot 308, 2010, 1.6 HDi. I need a turbocharger, working, with no play in the shaft and no signs of oil, with a warranty on testing. Photos from all sides. I will give the VIN. Courier delivery to Abu Dhabi. Budget up to AED 620.”

How searching works on BlaBlaPrice

You describe the part once on BlaBlaPrice and do not phone the breakers. Sellers reply in the chat: price, photos, availability, delivery. The platform shows the best-value offer first, with seller reviews beside it. Each seller sees their place among the others and can improve their terms. Your contacts are opened only to the seller you choose. Read more on the “How it works” page.

For related brands, see Citroen and Fiat, and find the full list in the car breakers section.

Questions and answers

Will a Citroen turbocharger fit a Peugeot?

Possibly, if the engine and the part code match. The seller must confirm it by the number or the VIN.

Which is better: a used or a reconditioned turbocharger?

A reconditioned one usually costs more, but it has a renewed cartridge and a warranty. A used one is cheaper, but depends on the condition of the donor.

What should I look at in photos of a turbocharger?

The blades, the shaft, the pipes and any traces of oil. Ask for photos from all sides.

Should I replace anything else with the turbocharger?

It is often advised to check the oil feed and the filters. Ask your mechanic what is needed for your engine.
