Order drone aerial photography: photos, video and maps from operators

How aerial photography differs from ordinary shooting

You need a drone when you have to show something from above: a plot for sale, construction progress, a house from the yard, an event from a height, or a landscape. For simple jobs a few photos and a short clip are enough. Maps and measurements need a different approach, an orthophoto or a 3D model, and there the equipment and processing matter.

Everything depends on the result: the price, how long the shoot takes and which operator to choose. So in your request, say up front what you want to get at the end.

How to get offers on BlaBlaPrice

You create one request and wait for replies, instead of searching for operators in groups and ads. You can add one photo, for example of the plot. The request is checked, and you are told what the operators still need to know.

Operators reply in the chat: what they will shoot, in what format they will deliver, the price or what it depends on, and when they can come. They can see where they rank among the others and often improve their terms. The offer with the best overall terms is shown first, with reviews next to it. You open the phone number only for the one you choose. More about how it works is on the “How it works” page.

What to put in your request

  • What to shoot — a plot, property, construction, an event, a wedding, a landscape, a map.
  • Result — photos, raw or edited video, orthophoto, 3D; how many photos or how long the clip.
  • Date — when to shoot, plus a spare day in case of weather.
  • Location — city and a landmark.
  • Duration — an hour of shooting or the number of flights.
  • Type of shoot — 4K, FPV fly-through, thermal imaging, mapping.
  • Flight permission — whether it is needed and who gets it.
  • Delivery date and budget.

Example: “I need aerial photography of a 5,000 sq. ft plot in Ottawa: 20 photos and a 1-minute clip in 4K, on 6 November, about an hour of shooting. Flight permission is arranged. I would like the files within 3 days. Budget up to $98.”

What to look for when choosing

Ask for examples of work and which drone they use: the model decides the picture quality, stability and whether they can fly in wind. Find out whether they carry spare batteries, so the shoot is not cut short. Weather: rain and strong wind often cancel a shoot, so agree in advance how to reschedule without losing money.

Find out what is included in the price: travel, processing, editing, colour correction, music, the number of revisions. For a map or orthophoto, ask about accuracy, file formats and whether ground control points are needed. Also pay attention to the flying rules: flights are restricted in some zones, so ask the operator how they deal with this.

Common mistakes

Not saying whether you need finished video rather than just raw footage. Not agreeing on the right to use the images, especially for advertising. Forgetting about the weather and not planning a spare date. Mixing up the price for the shoot with the price for a finished, edited clip.

If you also need editing, see video editing. For the wedding day there is wedding photography, and everything is in the “Photo and video” section.

Questions and answers

How long does aerial photography take?

For a small plot or property, one visit is usually enough. The time depends on the tasks and the weather; state them in your request.

Do I need permission to fly a drone?

Flights are restricted in some zones, so discuss this with the operator. Write in the request whether you have permission and who is getting it.

What will I get as the result?

It depends on what you agree: photos, video, orthophoto or 3D. Clarify the format and the number of files so you can compare offers.

Does the buyer pay BlaBlaPrice?

No. The operator pays a small fee only when you choose them.
