Car air fresheners and ozonators: what to choose and where it is cheaper
Air freshener and ozonator: different jobs
An air freshener only adds a scent. An ozonator removes smell: ozone breaks down the odour molecules from tobacco, mould or pets and disinfects surfaces. So if the cabin smells of smoke or damp, you first need an ozonator, and only after it a pleasant scent. Ozonating is a one-off treatment with an empty cabin: after it, the car must be aired.
Types of air fresheners
- Hanging cards (like Little Trees) are cheap but quickly fade.
- A clip on the air vent lasts longer and is dosed by the airflow.
- Gel and liquid ones in tins work evenly and go under a seat or in a cup holder.
- Sprays are for a quick freshen-up, and the effect is short.
The duration is usually given in days or weeks, but it depends a lot on temperature: in the heat the scent evaporates faster. If you do not know the smell, take one sample first, because concentrated scents seem different at home and in the cabin.
What to look at in an ozonator
The main parameter is ozone output, usually in g/h or mg/h. A small output is enough for a car cabin, but for a minibus or frequent use you need more. Power comes from the 12 V cigarette lighter or from the 230 V mains, and a timer adds convenience. Do not use an ozonator when people or animals are in the cabin.

Air fresheners are often counterfeited, especially popular brands. Ask whether the goods are original, and compare the price per piece at different quantities. For a taxi business or a car wash, buying in bulk changes the total sharply.
