Buy an aircraft, helicopter, locomotive or wagon: seller offers
An unusual purchase needs a clear request
Aircraft, helicopters and rail equipment are sold rarely, and few offers are visible in the open. It is hard to find a reliable seller among random listings, and this is where it helps when sellers find you instead.
Below is what to state for each kind so that the replies are to the point.
Air equipment
For aircraft the important things are the type (light piston, agricultural, sport), flight hours, the remaining life of the engine and propeller, and valid airworthiness certificates. For helicopters also ask about the life of the main rotor and gearbox, the condition of the blades and the hours flown. Hang gliders are usually judged by wing type, engine, year of manufacture and the condition of the fabric and lines.
In every case ask for the documents: logbook, registration papers and the maintenance record. Without them both the price and the safety of the machine are in doubt.
Rail equipment
Diesel locomotives and railway wagons are bought for shunting work and for industrial needs. What matters is the series or wagon type (open, tank, covered, flat), the track gauge, the technical condition, the date of the last major overhaul and whether it is cleared to run on the tracks you need. Check whether the price includes transport and assembly, because oversized cargo needs a separate plan.
What to put in your request
- type and model — or just the type, if you are still choosing;
- year and hours or kilometres — flight hours, mileage, date of the overhaul;
- technical condition — working, for restoration, for parts;
- papers — certificates, registration papers, logbooks;
- purpose — leisure flying, agriculture, storage, production;
- transport — where to deliver, whether dismantling is needed;
- city and budget, if you want to state it.
How to compare offers
Compare not only the price but also the papers, the hours and the terms of handover. Such equipment often needs a specialist's inspection, so arrange for an independent engineer to be present and do not pay the final amount before the check. Ask who handles the transfer of registration and whether it is in the price.
The legal side matters just as much: aircraft need registration and permission to fly, and rail rolling stock needs a track or an agreement with whoever manages it. It is better to ask the relevant authorities about the rules at the start, not after you have paid. If you do not know where to begin, describe the purpose of the purchase and sellers will tell you which papers you will need.
Count the running costs too: a hangar or parking, insurance, fuel, regular inspections or repairs. Retired equipment with limited life left can cost much less, but it needs a full inspection, replacement of parts whose life has run out and often restored papers, so compare offers by the full list of costs, not by price alone.
For hang gliders and light aircraft, say where you plan to fly and whether there is a flying club nearby: they can often advise on training and permissions. For rail equipment, write the station or siding where the cargo must arrive.
How BlaBlaPrice helps here
You write one request, and sellers reply in the chat: what exactly they offer, the price or what it depends on, the terms and photos. The platform shows the best-value offer first, and seller reviews are visible next to each one. Your contacts stay hidden until you choose one seller. More in the “How it works” section. For ordinary vehicles, see the “Vehicles” section.
