Dentures and veneers: how to compare prosthodontists' offers
Veneers, crowns or removable dentures
These solve different problems. Veneers are thin shells on the front surface of teeth, mostly for looks. A crown covers the whole tooth when it is badly damaged or after root canal treatment. A bridge replaces missing teeth by resting on the neighbouring ones. Removable dentures (acrylic, cast-framework, nylon) are used when many teeth are missing. The prosthodontist decides which type suits you after an examination, and in your request you describe the situation and your wishes.
The material decides the look and the price
- Zirconia is strong and looks good, and is often chosen for crowns and bridges.
- E-max (pressed ceramic) is popular for veneers and cosmetic crowns on front teeth.
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal is a proven option, but the metal edge can sometimes show near the gums.
- Composite is cheaper and easier to repair, but changes colour over time.
- Acrylic, nylon and cast-framework are for removable dentures, and differ in comfort and strength.
The price also depends on the number of units, the lab that makes the work, the preparation of the teeth and the smile design.
What to put in your request
- Type of prosthetics — crowns, a bridge, veneers, inlays, a removable denture.
- Material — zirconia, E-max, porcelain-fused-to-metal, composite or "please advise".
- Which and how many teeth — for example, eight upper teeth, or which jaw.
- Condition of the teeth — missing, need treatment before prosthetics, existing implants.
- Colour and look — the shade you want, and whether you want a smile design with a trial fitting.
- When — for example, before a wedding — and city or area.
- Doctor's experience — for example, a prosthodontist with a portfolio of veneers — and budget.
Example: “I need E-max veneers on 8 upper teeth, shade BL2, with a smile design and a trial fit. Tuen Mun, before a wedding in a month. A prosthodontist with a veneer portfolio, budget up to HK$11,000.”
How offers work on BlaBlaPrice
Your request is checked for ads and contacts. Then clinics and prosthodontists in your city reply in the chat: what they offer, the price or what it depends on, and how long the work takes to make. Each one sees its place among the others, so it competes for your request. BlaBlaPrice shows the best-value offer first, with reviews beside it. Only the doctor you choose sees your phone number. Read more on “How it works”.
What to clarify before you start
Does the price include preparing the teeth, temporary crowns, fitting and cementing? Which lab makes the work, and can you see finished cases? How many visits are needed and how long does fabrication take? What is the warranty and what does it cover? For veneers, ask whether the teeth need to be shaved down and whether you can have a mock-up before the final work.
A common mistake is to compare the price "per crown" without considering the material or preparation. Another is not treating the teeth before prosthetics: a diseased tooth under a crown can let you down. Before prosthetics you may need dental treatment, and when teeth are missing entirely, consider dental implants. To start, create a request.
