Carburettor, Fuel Tank and Pump for Motorcycles: How to Buy
What the fuel system includes
It is the tank, the fuel tap, hoses, a filter, a pump (on fuel-injected models), and the carburettor or injectors. People most often look for a carburettor and repair kits for it. For older bikes, for example the Yamaha RD 350, you may also need a tank with a tap, because they rust from the inside.
The carburettor: the marking decides everything
Carburettors from the same maker differ in the diameter of the venturi, the jets and the mounting. So search by the marking stamped on the body: for example Mikuni VM22. If there is no marking, give the model, year, capacity and engine type (4T or 2T). Parts for 2T and 4T are not interchangeable.
Quite often you do not need to replace the carburettor. If the bike has stood for a long time, it is often enough to clean it and fit new jets, a needle, a diaphragm and gaskets. A repair kit costs less than a new unit and keeps the original geometry. So in your request be clear: do you need a complete carburettor or a repair kit.
What to put in your request
- which part — carburettor, tank, tap, fuel pump, injector, repair kit;
- bike model — for example Yamaha RD 350;
- engine — capacity and type, for example 350 cc, 2T;
- marking — stamped on the body, or the part number;
- original or aftermarket;
- condition — new, or used in working order;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need a Mikuni VM22 or compatible carburettor for a Yamaha RD 350, two-stroke, in working order with a set of jets. Delivery to Tsuen Wan, budget up to HK$280.”
What to look at in offers
- Whether the carburettor comes with the air intake, the cable and the float chamber.
- Whether the thread is stripped and the needle valves are worn.
- For a tank: no rust inside, no dents and no signs of welding. Ask for photos of the inside.
- Whether there is a warranty that a used part works.
A separate mistake is to buy a carburettor that is “roughly the same” and then spend a long time tuning it. Another is not to check the fuel hoses and filter: dirt harms even a new unit.
How it works on BlaBlaPrice
You create one request, and motorcycle-parts sellers reply in the chat with price, condition and timing. They see where their offer stands and often improve their terms. The site shows the best-value one first, with reviews of the seller beside it. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose a seller. More in “How it works”.
