Women's jeans: how to find your style and size at a good price
W and L sizes are not the same as letter sizes
On a jeans label there are usually two numbers: W is the waist in inches, L is the inseam length. For example, W27 L30 suits a shorter woman with a slim waist. Letter sizes give different results at different brands, so it is better to go by the item's measurements.
The rise matters too. A high rise emphasises the waist and suits mom or straight styles, a low rise suits modern wide cuts. It decides whether the jeans will sit on you the way they do in the photo.
What to put in your request
- Style – mom, skinny, straight, wide, flared, boyfriend, baggy.
- Rise – high, mid, low.
- Size – W and L, UK size or height.
- Brand – for example, Levi's.
- Fabric content – rigid cotton denim or with stretch.
- Colour or wash – light blue, dark, black, distressed.
- Condition – new with tags or second-hand.
- Budget and delivery city.

Rigid denim or stretch
Denim without elastane holds its shape and lasts long, but for the first few days it fits tightly and needs “breaking in”. Stretch is comfortable at once, but over time it can bag at the knees and the seat. So say in your request which suits you.
Ask the seller to state the fabric content and weight. For second-hand pairs, check that there is no wear at the inner thighs and that the size has not changed after washing.
Style and height
Mom and straight jeans usually sit comfortably on different figures, skinny ones need an exact fit at the hips, while flared and wide models look better on taller women, because a long leg “eats” height. If you are petite, look for an inseam of L28–L30 or be ready to hem them.
