How to find a lawyer for your company: in-house, courts, corporate law
One lawyer is not like another
One of the biggest problems in hiring is the vague word “lawyer”. A corporate lawyer drafts contracts and supports deals. A litigation lawyer works with suits, hearings and enforcement. A tax lawyer handles notices and advises on taxation. There are also family law, criminal law and other fields. A specialist in one field is not always comfortable in another, so in the post name the specific area.
What to put in the request
- Area of law — corporate, litigation, tax, family, criminal.
- Duties — drafting and reviewing contracts, court work, sending notices, advice.
- Right to appear in court — whether membership of the bar or law society is needed. It is needed if the person is to represent clients in court.
- Salary — an amount, bonuses or a share of cases won separately, if any.
- Place of work — city, office, remote or hybrid.
- Hours — five days a week, flexible, part time.
- Terms — on the payroll, freelance, full or part time, permanent or for a project.
- Experience — in years and in exactly the area you need.
Example request
“A company in Central needs a corporate lawyer. Drafting and checking contracts, supporting deals, taking part in legal disputes. Hybrid format, five days a week with a flexible start of the day. At least 3 years of experience, salary from HK$5,600 a month, on the payroll.”
How to search for a lawyer through BlaBlaPrice
You describe the job once and do not send it to ten platforms. Before it is shown, the request is checked for ads and contacts, and hints are given on what details candidates still lack. Candidates in your region reply in the chat: they tell you about their practice, pay expectations and joining date.
BlaBlaPrice shows the strongest replies by content first, and the reviews of the candidate are visible next to it. Contacts are hidden and open only to the chosen one. It is free for the employer. More on the “How it works” page.
What to check before deciding
Ask the candidate to describe a specific case or contract they are most proud of, and what exactly they did in it. Ask about typical disputes in your field, not about general theory. If you need someone to appear in court, check their bar or law society membership.
A mistake is to look for one lawyer “for everything” in a large company. Sometimes it is wiser to hire one on the payroll for contracts and hand complex disputes to an outside firm. For financial questions, look separately, for example for a financial analyst.
