Octavia A5 air conditioning: compressor or condenser?
When the air conditioning on a Skoda Octavia A5 stops cooling, there can be several causes: lost refrigerant, a faulty compressor, a blocked condenser or the electronics. Buy a unit only after a diagnosis. If the mechanic has said you need a compressor, give the engine in the request, because compressors differ for the 1.6 MPI, the diesels and other engines.
Also give the trim: climate control or plain air conditioning, because the pipes and sensors depend on it.
How to judge a compressor from a breaker
Ask whether it turns by hand, whether the pulley and clutch have any play and whether there are traces of oil. A good breaker will gladly send a photo of the plate on the body with the number and confirm that the part was taken from a working car. Also ask whether the clutch is included in the price and whether the breaker gives a warranty.
With a compressor the receiver-drier is often replaced and the system flushed, or the new part may fail from the old dirt. That is a question for the mechanic, not the seller.

- Year;
- Engine — for example, 1.6 MPI;
- Trim — air conditioning or climate control;
- Colour — for body parts;
- Condition — working, with a warranty on testing;

How to compare offers
Do not look only at the price. One seller offers a bare compressor, another one with the clutch and mounts, a third a reconditioned one. These are different things. Check the warranty and the return process if the unit does not work after fitting.
