How to find a photographer, videographer, entertainer or model
Here you choose a portfolio, not a diploma
In creative professions experience shows in the work. A photographer may have excellent technique but not know how to work with people at a wedding, and an entertainer may be great at a children’s party and helpless at a corporate event. So in the request explain not only “who” but also “what for”, because style decides the choice.
Another feature: creative people often work not on staff but on projects. Decide whether you need a permanent post or a person for one shoot, event or series of videos.
Who you need for your task
- Photographer: portrait, wedding, product shots for a catalogue, reportage.
- Video editor, videographer: event filming, promotional videos, editing vlogs, video for social media.
- Entertainer: children’s parties, corporate events, themed programmes, costumed characters.
- Model: shoots for catalogues, advertising, shows, in a studio or outdoors.
What to put in the vacancy
- Task and format — what to shoot or run, for whom, in what style.
- Date and length — when the event is, how many hours, whether preparation is needed.
- Place — city, studio, location, whether travel is needed.
- Volume of result — number of edited photos, running time of the video, programme.
- Equipment and props — what the provider must have and what you supply.
- Pay — per hour, per project, per result, payment date.
- Rights to the material — whether you can use the images in advertising.
Example request: “Need a photographer for a children’s birthday party in Auckland on 12 October, 3 hours from 15:00. Reportage shooting, 80 edited photos within a week. Lighting is provided, colour editing. Budget up to $170.”
How searching on BlaBlaPrice works
Instead of scrolling through feeds looking for the right style, you write one request. Providers reply in the chat, show their work and give a price and timing. First the request is checked and you see hints on what is missing. Contacts stay hidden until you choose a person. The scheme is described on the “How it works” page.
What to look at when choosing
Compare work in the genre you need: a wedding photographer and a product photographer work differently. Clarify the delivery date, the number of revisions and the format in which you will receive files. Ask whether there is spare equipment in case of a breakdown. For entertainers, ask about the age group and the length of the programme; for models, about experience on similar shoots. All terms, especially the rights of use, are best fixed in a contract or in messages.
Agree on a backup plan in advance. If the shoot is outdoors, discuss what happens if it rains, and if it is a child’s birthday, what to do if the entertainer falls ill. Ask the provider to confirm the date in writing a day before the event. For projects with several stages, such as a video, split the payment into an advance and a final payment after delivery: that is convenient for both sides, and doubts about the result do not pile up.
If the project is recurring, for instance a monthly catalogue shoot, agree on a discount for a series or a fixed package: it suits both sides, and the provider books the dates more willingly.
