How to buy bicycle accessories well: lights, locks, cycle computers
First decide exactly what you need
Bicycle accessories are very different things: lights, locks, cycle computers, pumps, racks, mudguards, baskets, child seats and phone holders. It is not enough to write “something for the handlebar”: the type of accessory decides what to look at and what the price depends on.
For lights, for example, brightness in lumens and battery run time matter. For locks, the type (U-lock, chain, folding) and length. For a cycle computer, GPS and support for heart-rate and cadence sensors.
Compatibility: where most mistakes happen
Most returns happen because an accessory did not fit the bike. Before you write your request, check:
- handlebar diameter — mounts usually fit 25.4, 31.8 or 35 mm;
- wheel size — for mudguards, pumps, tubes and racks;
- mounting point — frame, seat post, axle; whether the frame has threaded mounts for a rack and bottle cage;
- axle and brakes — disc or rim, which affects the choice of rack and mudguards.
If you do not know the sizes, write the bike's model and year, and the seller will tell you what fits.
What to put in your request
- What exactly — the type of accessory;
- Specifications — lumens, lock length, GPS, maximum load;
- Compatibility — handlebar diameter, wheel size, type of mount;
- Model, if you have already chosen;
- Condition — new or used;
- Quantity — for example, a pair of lights;
- Budget and city for delivery.
Example: “I need a cycle computer with GPS and heart-rate sensor support, preferably a Garmin Edge 530, new. Handlebar mount for 31.8 mm. Cebu City, courier delivery, budget up to ₱19,000.”
How searching through BlaBlaPrice works
You describe your request once on the home page, and sellers of cycling goods answer with offers in the chat: what exactly, for how much, when they will ship. They see where their offer stands and often improve the price or terms. It is free for buyers, and your phone stays hidden until you choose a seller. Details are on How it works.
How to compare offers
Compare like with like: is it the same model, and does the set include mounts, a charger, batteries and keys? For locks, ask about the security rating and the number of keys. For electronics, ask about the warranty and whether it is a genuine product with a proper bill. For lights, ask whether a charger is included and whether it charges over USB-C. For a rack, how much load it carries. Small accessories are cheaper bought together, so you can list several items in one request and sellers will quote a total.
