Bridal lingerie for under the outfit: how to buy well and avoid mistakes

Lingerie for a wedding dress is chosen to fit its cut, not the other way round. A low back, a deep neckline or a strapless dress rules out half of the models at once. So until the outfit is chosen or altered, it is too early to buy lingerie.
Take the outfit to the fitting together with the lingerie, or bring a photo of the cut, and only then write your request. Otherwise there is a high risk that the straps show and the seams come through thin fabric.
What options there are
A corset or bustier shapes the waist and supports the bust under bare shoulders. A strapless bra, or one for a low back, comes with a silicone strip or an adhesive base. Bodysuits and slips smooth the line under a fitted mermaid or straight dress. Sets and garters are more about the look than about the cut.
Under light fabric choose a shade closer to your skin (nude), not white: pure white often shows through.
What to put in your request
- type of lingerie – corset, bodysuit, strapless bra, slip, garter;
- cut of the outfit – low back, deep V-neck, strapless;
- size – underbust and cup (for example, 34B), or waist measurement;
- colour – ivory, nude, champagne, white;
- material – lace, satin, microfibre, silicone;
- brand, if you already have a favourite;
- condition – new or second-hand (people usually buy this kind of lingerie new);
- budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I need a corset for a wedding outfit with a low back, ivory, lace, size 34C, waist 68 cm. New, in Cebu City, budget up to ₱3,800. The wedding is in six weeks.”
How to compare offers
Compare like with like: a corset with steel boning and a decorative corset without a frame cost different amounts but look similar in photos. Ask about the boning, the fastening (lacing or hooks), the lining and whether you can return it if the size is wrong.
Ask the seller for a photo of the inside and the exact measurements of the item, not only the brand's size chart. This is especially important for corsets: their size is counted by the waist.
