Divorce, child support, property division: find a lawyer and compare fees
Mutual consent or a dispute: everything depends on it
If husband and wife have agreed and there are no children, a divorce may need only light support. If one side objects, or there are children or property, the case goes to the family court and the lawyer's work becomes substantial. So the first thing is to decide honestly which case yours is.
On BlaBlaPrice you describe the situation once, and lawyers and lawyers reply with offers in the chat: the scope of work, the price, the timing. You don't have to tell your story to each of them, and it is free.
What to include in your request
- What you need — divorce, claiming or changing child support or maintenance, division of property, deciding where the child lives, establishing paternity.
- Consent or dispute — whether the other side agrees, or the case is contested.
- Children — whether there are minors, how many and what age.
- Property — flat, house, car, business, home loan or other debts.
- Where the other side is — abroad, address unknown.
- Stage — petition not yet filed, already filed, hearing fixed, a decision to be appealed.
- Your participation — whether you can attend court, or need the case handled without you being present.
- City — where the court or the couple's home is.
- Budget — if you want to name one.
Example request
“Cebu City. I want a divorce with division of property: a flat with a home loan and a car. My husband objects. Two children, aged 5 and 9, living with me. The petition has not been filed yet. I am abroad at the moment and want everything handled, as far as the court allows, without my being present. Budget up to ₱23,000.”
How to compare lawyers
Prices in family cases can differ widely, because the scope differs too. To make the comparison fair, find out:
- what the sum covers: drafting the petition, appearing at all hearings, an appeal, enforcing the decision;
- whether valuation of property and other costs are paid separately;
- whether the lawyer can represent you without your being there in person and what documents that needs;
- whether there is experience in similar cases, for example with property under a home loan or a respondent abroad.
The platform shows first the offer that is best by content, with reviews next to it. Advocates see where they stand and can improve their terms. Your phone is hidden, and contacts go only to the professional you choose. All the steps are described on the “How it works” page.
Common mistakes
One of the main ones is settling questions about children and property by word of mouth, without documents. The second is not gathering marriage records, statements and income papers in advance. The third is agreeing to “everything included” without a written list of the work.
If the division concerns a flat or a plot, you may need property and land registration, and a settlement is often put on record with a notary. For a complicated dispute there is court representation.
