Wheel, Tyre and Running Gear for Scooters and Motorcycles: How to Buy

The tyre size is on the sidewall

A marking like 120/70-17 or 130/70-12 gives the width of the profile in mm, the ratio of height to width in per cent and the rim diameter in inches. Scooters usually have 10, 12 or 13 inches, road motorcycles 17 and 18. The best thing is to take the size from the sidewall of the old tyre: then you will not miss. But still give the model and year: the permitted sizes vary, and the front and rear wheels differ.

A complete wheel or separate parts

Running gear covers wheels and rims, hubs, spokes, tubes and sprocket carriers. A complete wheel is handy when the rim is damaged. Spokes can be replaced separately, but a bent alloy rim is better not repaired. For a tube, check compatibility with the valve. Many scooters run tubeless tyres, and a tube is not needed there.

The brake matters too: the hub is made for either a disc or a drum brake. A wheel for a disc cannot be fitted to a drum model, so give the type in your request.

What to put in your request

  • which part — complete wheel, rim, tyre, tube, hub, spokes;
  • bike model — for example the Yamaha Aerox scooter;
  • size — for example tyre 130/70-12;
  • front or rear;
  • brake type — disc or drum;
  • original or aftermarket;
  • condition — new, or used in working order;
  • delivery city and budget.

Example: “I need a rear complete wheel for a Yamaha Aerox scooter with a 130/70-12 tyre, for a disc brake. Used, in good condition, with no bends. Delivery to Quezon City, budget up to ₱3,000.”

When comparing offers

  • The tyre’s manufacture date (DOT code): an old tyre is hard even with no mileage.
  • For a rim: photos from all sides, no cracks and no bends in the edge.
  • Whether balancing and fitting are included, if you need them.
  • For used tyres: mileage, the tread pattern and evenness of wear.

A new tyre on an old rim with corrosion quickly loses pressure. When you replace it, check the hub bearings too, otherwise the wheel runs out of true or makes noise. You can get them in the bearings section.

How BlaBlaPrice helps

You describe the wheel or tyre in one request, and sellers reply in the chat with price, condition and delivery. They see where their offer stands, so they often improve their terms. The site shows the best-value one first, with reviews of the seller beside it. Contacts are hidden. More in “How it works”.

Sometimes the problem is in the suspension, and then look at shock absorbers and suspension.

Questions and answers

Where do I find the tyre size?

On the sidewall of the old tyre, for example 120/70-17. The size is also given in the motorcycle’s documentation.

Can I fit a tyre of a different size?

Only within the limits allowed for the rim and the model. It is better to write the standard size to avoid fitting problems.

How is a tube tyre different from a tubeless one?

A tubeless tyre does not need a tube, but it needs a rim and valve made for that type. Scooters often use both kinds.

Do all sellers see my phone number?

No, only the seller you choose will see it.
