The main decision is whether to take a ready-made embroidered shirt or order handwork. A ready-made one can reach you in a few days, but you have to accept the size and pattern that is available. Hand embroidery takes weeks, even months, so for a wedding or a festival, order with time to spare.
Ask what kind of embroidery it is: hand or machine, and the technique, such as chikankari, thread work or tone-on-tone white. The price and how the piece looks up close depend on it.
What to put in your request
Write so that the craftsperson or shop understands at once what you need:
- embroidery: hand or machine, the technique, the region or the motif;
- fabric: linen, cotton, handloom;
- size: letter, number or measurements: chest, sleeve length, neck;
- colour: of the base and the embroidery, for example white with white work, or with a red and black pattern;
- cut and sleeve: slim or loose, mandarin collar or open collar, long or short sleeve;
- occasion: groom, festival, gift or everyday;
- brand or craftsperson, if you have one in mind;
- deadline: the date by which you need it;
- delivery city and budget, if you want to state it.
Example: “I need a men's embroidered shirt for the groom, linen, hand embroidery in white on white or with a blue and gold pattern, slim fit, long sleeves. Measurements: chest 104 cm, height 182 cm. Needed for a wedding on 20 June, Manila, budget up to ₱4,400.”
