Used Infiniti parts: how to find a rare part
Why it is better not to search for an Infiniti by hand
There are few Infinitis on our roads, and few breakers specialise in this make. One breaker has the FX35, another only the Q50, a third breaks up only Nissans. Calling them all takes long, and answers like “we will see” give you nothing.
On BlaBlaPrice it is the other way round: you write a request once, and sellers who really have the part answer by themselves. Those who do not have it simply do not answer and do not waste your time.
What it shares with Nissan and why that is a trap
Infiniti is technically related to Nissan, so some units are similar and sometimes even identical. But it is better not to trust the slogan “it will fit from a Nissan”: mountings, electronics and trim can differ. A steering rack, for example, must be checked by part number or VIN, because the mountings and sensor connectors may differ between versions. When a seller names the number and asks for the VIN, that is a good sign.
So if someone recommends a Nissan equivalent, ask them to confirm the compatibility in writing in the chat.
Such cars are often imported from Japan or the USA, so ask where the donor came from. Versions for different markets differ in lamps and electronics, and this can affect compatibility.
What to put in your request
- Model — for example, Infiniti FX35 or G37;
- Part — steering rack, headlight, bumper and so on;
- Year and body — for example, 2009, S51;
- Engine — 3.5 V6 and the like;
- Side — left or right;
- Colour — for body parts, including pearl finishes;
- Condition — working, with a warranty for testing;
- VIN — the most accurate way to match;
- Delivery city and budget.
Example: “Infiniti FX35, 2009, body S51, 3.5 V6. I need a complete steering rack, working, with no leaks, with a warranty for testing. Photos and the donor's mileage, please. I will send the VIN. Courier delivery to Manila. Budget up to ₱23,000.”
How to judge offers for a steering rack
Ask whether the rack came off a car that was running, whether there had been an accident, and whether there are oil leaks or play. Find out whether the tie rods and ends and the dust boots are included or have already been replaced. Compare prices only on equal terms: without rods and with rods, without a warranty and with one.
Mind the logistics too: a rack is heavy, so courier shipping costs extra. Sellers can see that other offers are better, so they often lower the price or take the delivery on themselves. The platform's rules are explained on the How it works page, and other makes are in the section of car breakers.
