Car mud flaps: model-specific or universal, how to buy well
Why you need them
Mud flaps protect the wheel arches, sills and body from sand, gravel and mud thrown up by the wheels, and they reduce the spray on the car behind. For an SUV or crossover that drives on rough roads, they are especially useful: fewer scratches on the paint and less rust in vulnerable places.
Model-specific or universal
Model-specific ones are made for a particular model and year: they follow the shape of the arch and have ready holes for fixing, so they go on without drilling or with little work. Universal ones are cheaper, but you have to fit and fix them yourself, so they look less neat, and sometimes they simply don’t cover the right area. For most owners the model-specific ones are better value.
Fitting is usually easy, but on a car that drives through the rainy season or on bad roads, fix it at every point, because a loosely fitted flap slips down and hits the wheel. Give the year and the facelift: on some models the bumper or arch changes after an update, and the old flaps don’t fit. State separately whether you need front, rear or a set of four.
Material
- Rubber is soft, takes the knocks of stones and doesn’t crack in the cold like hard plastics.
- Polyurethane is also flexible and lasts long.
- Plastic is stiffer and cheaper, but it can break.
Original flaps from the car maker usually cost more, but fit perfectly. The alternative is accessory makers that offer fitted sets.
What to put in your request
- Model and year — for example, Renault Duster 2018, facelift.
- Front or rear — or a set of 4.
- Model-specific or universal.
- Material — rubber, polyurethane, plastic.
- Maker — original or an accessory brand.
- Delivery and budget.
Example: “I need model-specific rubber mud flaps, a set of 4, for a 2018 Renault Duster after the facelift, original or a good accessory brand preferred. Courier delivery to Quezon City, budget up to ₱1,600.”
What to compare
Ask whether fixings (screws, clips) are included, because they are sometimes sold separately. Check that the set covers all the wheels you need and that the seller confirms it fits your exact year. Look at seller reviews and the return terms in case it doesn’t fit. Also ask for a photo of the set: good flaps have even edges, no burrs and no smell of raw rubber, and the fixings look carefully made.
How BlaBlaPrice works here
You write a request once, and sellers reply in the chat: availability, price, delivery. The site shows the offer with the best value first. Sellers see their place among the others and often improve their terms. Contacts are hidden, and only the one you choose gets them. More on the “How it works” page.
Along with mud flaps people often buy car mats for the cabin.
