How to find a travel consultant for a travel agency

Decide the focus before you search

An international tours consultant, a ticketing consultant and a corporate travel consultant are three different profiles. One sells package tours to Turkey or Thailand and works with tour operators, another puts together hotels and flights from different sources, a third handles a company's group travel. If the listing does not tell them apart, everybody replies and the right candidates get lost.

In the request, state the focus, the work format and what the person will do every day: selecting trips, bookings, visa documents, supporting the client.

What to put in the listing

  • Travel focus — outbound, domestic, corporate, coach tours, hotels.
  • Duties — selecting and selling tours, visas, working with tour operators, client documents.
  • Place of work — travel agency, tour operator, online service, hotel.
  • City and area — for example, Manila.
  • Format — office, remote or mixed.
  • Salary — fixed pay plus a share of sales, and how much each part is.
  • Booking systems — Amadeus, tour operator sites, CRM.
  • Languages and schedule — good working English, 5-on-2-off or shifts.
  • Experience — 1+ years in travel.

Example request

“A travel agency in Manila needs a consultant for outbound tours. Selecting and selling tours, working with tour operators, preparing client documents. Office, 5-on-2-off, fixed pay plus 10% of sales. 1+ years in travel, good working English, Amadeus experience is a plus.”

How to assess the candidate

In travel, patience and attention to detail matter: a mistake in a date or the spelling of a surname costs the client money. Give a small task: pick a holiday option from a client's description and explain why this one. You will see whether the person asks clarifying questions about the family, budget, dates and wishes.

Ask how the candidate acts when a flight changes or a hotel does not confirm a booking. Also check whether they understand travel insurance and the entry rules of the countries you sell: these change, and being able to check current requirements quickly matters more than memory.

Describe the pay scheme separately. If income depends largely on sales, say honestly which season is slow and which is busy.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You write the listing once, it is checked, and candidates reply in the chat with their experience, expected pay and start date. Your phone number stays hidden until you choose someone. A request stays active for 7 days and can be extended. It is free for the employer. More in how it works.

Questions and answers

Can I hire a travel consultant without experience?

Yes, especially if you have tour operator contacts and a mentor. Say in the listing that you train people, and state what share of income the fixed pay makes up.

Can a consultant work remotely?

For selling tours online, yes, if you have a CRM and phone system. State the format in your request so that only people it suits reply.

What is better: fixed pay or a share of sales?

Most often a mix. Fixed pay gives stability, the share motivates, and your request should name both parts.

Is English needed?

For outbound destinations and work with hotels abroad it is desirable. State the level specifically, for example conversational.
