Umbrellas: how to choose a sturdy one and buy without overpaying
An umbrella that will stand up to wind
Umbrellas almost always break at the frame, not the fabric. Strength depends on the number of ribs (8 is standard, 16 and more resist gusts better), the frame material and the construction. Fibreglass flexes more and breaks less often than steel, and a windproof model with a double canopy lets air out through a vent. A cheap model may look the same but fall apart after a few rains, which in the rainy season can happen quickly.
A canopy of 100–105 cm suits one person, while 120 cm and more covers two people or a backpack. Stick umbrellas are strong and comfortable on a walk, but bulky. Folding ones are compact in a bag.
Automatic, semi-automatic or manual
An automatic opens and closes with a button, which is handy when your hands are full. A manual one is simple and durable because it has fewer parts. The spring of an automatic is often the weak point, so look for a seller who gives a warranty. Polyester or pongee with a special coating dries fast, and fabric with a proofing repels water better.
Colour is not secondary either: dark umbrellas show dirt less, and a light or bright one is more visible on the road. Children's models need a safe mechanism without sudden closing, so fingers don't get pinched.
What to put in your request
- Type of umbrella — automatic, manual, stick, folding, beach, kids', golf.
- Size — canopy diameter and length when folded.
- Strength — number of ribs, windproof, fibreglass frame.
- Brand — for example Fulton.
- Colour — plain or with a print.
- For whom — men's, women's, kids'.
- Quantity — one or a batch for a company, for example with a logo.
- Budget — if you want to name one.
Example: “I need a folding automatic umbrella, windproof, canopy about 105 cm, 16 ribs, black. Quezon City, courier delivery. Budget up to ₱760.”
Ordering for a company or as a gift
Umbrellas with a logo are bought for clients and employees. Here the price depends on the print run, the method of branding (print, heat transfer) and the colour of the canopy. Give the quantity, the logo layout in general terms and the date by which the umbrellas must be ready. For a gift you can add a cover and a box.
On BlaBlaPrice you don't phone warehouses and shops; you write a request once. Sellers send offers in the chat: price, print run, timing and delivery. The platform shows the best by content first, with seller reviews next to each. Everyone sees their place among others, so they compete and improve their terms. Contacts stay hidden. Details are on the “How it works” page.
When you compare offers, check the number of ribs, the frame material and the warranty. To go with a rainy-day look, add scarves and gloves or a bag.
