Used parts for VAZ (Lada): Priora, Kalina, Niva, the “classics”
First work out which “family” your Lada belongs to
VAZ has many generations, and parts are not interchangeable between them. There are the “classics” (2101–2107), the “Samara” cars (2108–2115), the Niva 2121, and also the Kalina, Priora and Granta. Even within one family the bodies differ: the 2108, 2109 and 21099, for example, have different rear ends. So give not just “VAZ” but the exact model.
Old cars have no VIN of the kind we take for granted today in such requests, so the breaker goes by the model, year and engine.
Example: the Priora radiator
The radiator depends on the engine, on whether there is air conditioning and on the gearbox type. For a Priora 1.6 with 16 valves and air conditioning, the radiator does not match engines without it. Write this in the request and add whether you need the fan with its shroud. Check in the photos that the tanks have no cracks, there are no signs of repair and the mounts are undamaged.
A radiator should be pressure-tested for leaks. Ask whether that was done, and whether the breaker gives a warranty on testing.
What to put in your request
- Model — for example, Lada Priora or VAZ 2107;
- Part — radiator, gearbox, door, headlight and so on;
- Year and body — for example, 2008, saloon;
- Engine — size, carburettor or injection, 8 or 16 valves;
- Side — for parts that come in pairs;
- Colour — for body parts;
- Condition — new or used, undamaged;
- Delivery city and budget.
Example: “Lada Priora saloon, 2010, 1.6 injection, 16 valves, with air conditioning. I need a cooling radiator with the shroud and fan, used, no cracks or signs of repair, tested for leaks. Courier delivery to Davao City. Budget up to ₱3,200.”
New or used
For a VAZ a new aftermarket part is often available, but the quality differs between makers. A used part from a breaker gives an original part for less money, but with no reserve of life. So if the part is critical, such as a brake or steering part, consider a new one. For body parts, glass and plastic, used is usually enough. In the request you can write at once “I will consider new and used”, so that sellers offer both.
