Cards and envelopes: where to order with text, names or a logo
Ready-made or custom
A standard card or money envelope can be bought ready-made, but for a wedding, a naming ceremony or a company greeting people usually order printing or handmade work. The price gap is big: a ready item costs little, while custom design, embossing or photo printing usually costs more per piece, though with a larger run the unit price often falls.
So the first question is how many you need and whether names, a date or a logo must be on them. For two or three birthday cards, handmade will do, for 50 wedding invitations, a printed run.
What to put in your request
- What exactly — greeting card, money envelope, set of cards, invitation;
- Occasion — wedding, naming ceremony, New Year, Women's Day;
- Quantity — for example, 50 pieces, as the price per piece depends on the run;
- Text — names, date, wishes, a photo or logo;
- Style — handmade, kraft, minimalist, embossed;
- Format — A6, a standard size, square, or the size in centimetres;
- Timing — by what date you need them in hand;
- Budget — for example, up to $1.21 each.
Example: “I need 50 money envelopes, kraft paper, for a wedding, with the couple's names and date. Ang Mo Kio, needed by 1 June. Budget up to $1.21 each.”
How ordering works through BlaBlaPrice
You write one request, and craftspeople, print shops and card stores reply with offers: price per piece, a discount for a larger run, when it will be ready. You don't need to write to each one and repeat your needs. Sellers see where they stand among the others and adjust their terms, and only the one you choose sees your contacts. Details are on the page “How it works”.
How to compare offers
- Look at the price per piece at your run, not at the “from” price in a price list.
- Ask about the thickness of the paper or card: thin paper creases quickly.
- Ask whether the layout is included in the price and how many corrections you can make before printing.
- Ask for a photo of similar work or a sample, especially when you want embossing or colour printing.
For cut-out and handmade items, allow extra time: the more complex the design, the longer it takes to make.
Common mistakes
Most often people get the format wrong: the envelope must fit the card, and notes must go into a money envelope without folding. The second slip is checking the text only on screen. Always check names and date before printing, since a printed run can't be fixed.
