Duvets, Pillows and Throws: How to Choose the Filling and Not Overpay
The filling matters more than the brand
What a duvet or pillow is filled with decides warmth, weight, care and whether it may trigger an allergy. So decide the filling first, and only then look at the maker.
- Down and feathers — light and warm, breathe well, but need cleaning and don't always suit allergy sufferers.
- Wool — warm and keeps the body dry, good for winter, but can prickle sensitive skin.
- Silicone, hollow fibre — inexpensive, easy to wash, kinder to allergies, but less breathable.
- Bamboo — pleasant to the touch, often used in summer versions.
- Memory foam and buckwheat husk — for pillows that must support the neck.
Duvet: season and size
Duvets are divided into summer, all-season and winter. If your home is warm and you don't feel cold, an all-season one is enough. For two people, take a double 175×210 or a king 200×220; check that it fits your duvet cover, otherwise the filling will bunch up.
Pillow: height and firmness
Here everything depends on how you sleep. On your side you usually need a higher, firmer pillow, on your back a medium one, on your front a low, soft one. Orthopaedic pillows are shaped to support the neck, but it can take a few weeks to get used to them. If you have neck or spine problems, talk to a doctor.
What to put in your request
- what exactly — duvet, sleeping pillow, orthopaedic, decorative, throw, bedspread;
- size — for example 200×220 cm or 50×70 cm;
- filling — down, wool, silicone, bamboo, foam;
- season and warmth — summer, all-season, winter;
- firmness and height — for pillows;
- fabric — cotton, sateen, microfibre, fleece;
- quantity — including bulk for a hotel;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I need a winter king-size wool duvet, 200×220 cm, in a cotton cover, and two medium-firm pillows, 50×70. Courier delivery to Singapore, budget up to $89.”
How searching works on BlaBlaPrice
Instead of comparing dozens of pages about the “best” duvets, you write your wishes on the main page. Bedding sellers reply in a chat: what they offer, the filling, the price and delivery. The offers are compared, the best-value one comes first, and seller reviews are visible next to each one.
Each seller sees their place and can improve their terms to win your request. Your contacts stay hidden until you choose a seller. More on the principle on the “How it works” page.
How to compare and what to ask
The same name “down” can mean a different percentage of down, so ask for the composition of the filling and the fabric. Ask about density and weight in grams per m², and about care: can it be machine-washed and dried? For gifts and hotels, ask for photos and the size of the packaging.
