Parts for trailers and semi-trailers: axles, brakes, hubs

First work out what kind of trailer you have

A light car trailer and a heavy semi-trailer are two different worlds. The first has a simple axle, simple hubs and bearings. The second has air brakes, axles from known makers such as BPW or SAF, air suspension and landing legs. That is why the request needs differ: for a light trailer sizes and load are enough, for a heavy one you need the axle type, the make and the part number.

Which parameters decide the match

  • Axle: maker, permitted load (for example 9 t), flange size and number of bolts.
  • Brakes: drum or disc, drum size.
  • Bearings and hubs: bearing size and type of mounting.
  • Type of trailer: curtain-sided, refrigerated, tipper, tanker, low-bed.
  • Electrics and lights: types of connectors and bulbs.

What to put in your request

  • Which part — axle, hub, bearing, drum, leaf spring, coupling, lights, tarpaulin, landing leg;
  • Type of trailer — light trailer or semi-trailer with the body type;
  • Model — Schmitz Cargobull, Krone, Kögel or another;
  • Parameters — for example a BPW 9 t axle, drum brakes;
  • Year of manufacture;
  • Part number, if you can find it on the old part;
  • Original or aftermarket and condition;
  • Delivery city and budget.

Example: “Schmitz Cargobull semi-trailer, 2010. I need a brake shoe for a BPW 9 t axle, drum brakes, part number 0327248010. Original or a quality aftermarket, new. Courier delivery to Woodlands, budget up to $380.”

Where not to save money

Axles, brakes and hubs are responsible for safety on the road. Very cheap aftermarket parts from unknown sources can have weaker bearings and an uneven drum. Here it is better to take quality parts from known makers or proven reconditioned ones. But for lights, mudguards, tarpaulins and landing legs, a used part from a dismantler is quite fine.

How to compare offers

Check that the seller has confirmed compatibility with your axle or model. Ask about completeness: whether bolts, washers, seals and shoes for both wheels are included. For used parts, ask for photos and information about wear. Count the delivery cost: axles and drums are heavy. For tarpaulins, ask about the density of the material, the size and the number of eyelets, and for lights the voltage (12 or 24 V) and the connector type: these are the most common reasons a part does not fit.

Questions and answers

How do I find out what axle I have?

There is usually a plate on the axle with the maker, the load and a number. Photograph it and add it to your request.

Can I fit an aftermarket hub or brake?

For critical parts choose known brands or the original. For less important parts an aftermarket one can be justified.

What should I state for a light trailer?

The permitted weight, the size of the wheel and the mounting, and the axle type if you know it. A photo of the old part helps too.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, it is free for buyers. A seller pays a small fee only for the offer you choose.
