How to find a restaurant or hotel manager
Manager or administrator: what you need
An administrator handles the shift: guests, dining room, cash desk. A manager is responsible for the results of the whole place: staff, purchasing, costs, revenue, service standards. If you are looking for someone for a shift, consider an administrator. If you need a leader who holds the whole operation, this is a manager's job.
Write the request as if you were explaining it to the candidate in person: what is not working now, what must change in six months and who they will rely on.
What to put in the listing
- Position — restaurant manager, hotel manager, general manager.
- Type of place — a 120-seat restaurant, hotel, chain of cafes.
- Team size — for example, 25 people reporting to them.
- Salary — fixed pay and bonus, for example from $910 + bonus.
- Place of work — city and area.
- Schedule — 5-on-2-off from 9:00 to 18:00, or flexible with weekend duty.
- Employment — formal contract, probation period.
- Experience — 3+ years in a managerial role.
Example request
“A 120-seat restaurant in Singapore needs a manager. 25 people report to the role: floor, bar, kitchen. Responsible for the budget, rosters, purchasing and service. Schedule 5-on-2-off from 9:00 to 18:00, plus duty on holidays, formal contract, from $910 + bonus. 3+ years of experience in such a role.”
How to check a manager
Most of your questions should be about numbers and people. Ask the candidate to tell you how they calculated food cost and payroll, how they cut losses, how they settled conflicts between kitchen and floor, how they hired and let go of staff. Ask for a concrete example from their last place and the result.
Say in advance what will count as success: revenue, average bill, guest ratings, staff turnover. Then the bonus becomes clear. For a hotel, add questions about room occupancy and work with booking platforms.
Tell them which decisions the manager makes alone and which are agreed with the owner. Uncertainty here ruins cooperation faster than anything.
Do not forget the probation period: for a managerial post, three months is often better than one, since results do not show at once.
How the search works on BlaBlaPrice
Candidates come to you: you describe the job, it is checked, and interested people reply in the chat, telling you about their experience, notice period and pay. Your contacts stay hidden until you have chosen someone. A request stays active for 7 days. Also see How it works.
