How to buy motorcycle tools: pullers, sets, spanners

The tool must fit your engine

The main trap with motorcycle tools is that “similar” does not mean “it will fit”. A variator or flywheel puller is made for a particular thread and fit, so for one scooter engine and another these can be different things. A spark plug spanner must match the size of the plug, and a chain rivet tool or chain breaker must match the chain pitch (415, 428, 520, 525, 530).

So in the request the most important thing is not the brand but the motorcycle model and the engine. If you do not know exactly, write the make, model and year, and sellers will check what fits.

A set or a single tool

If you do one job, for example you take off the variator once a season, a single puller is enough. If you service the bike yourself regularly, a set in a case is better value: a spark plug spanner, spanners and sockets, tyre levers, screwdrivers with the right heads. But cheap sets sometimes have soft sockets that round off the corners, so ask about the material, for example chrome vanadium steel.

What to put in your request

  • Which tool — variator or flywheel puller, chain breaker, spark plug spanner, tyre levers, a set.
  • Motorcycle — scooter, motorcycle or quad bike, make, model and year.
  • Engine — model or capacity, for example 110 cc or 125 cc; for chain tools, the chain size.
  • Set or single — and whether you need a case.
  • Brand — if you have a preference.
  • New or used — a used tool is often cheaper, but check the wear.
  • Delivery city and budget, if you want to state one.

Example: “I need a variator puller for a Honda PCX 125 scooter, new, preferably metal and not too thin. Delivery to Tampines, budget up to $38.”

How to compare offers

Ask for a photo of the tool and check that the offers are really about the same thing: the steel, the thickness of the walls, whether bolts and adapters are in the box. For a set, count how many items it has, which socket sizes, and which of them you will really use. Ask whether you can return the tool if it does not fit the engine.

How it works on BlaBlaPrice

You do not call shops or scroll through listings, you write one request on BlaBlaPrice. Sellers of motorcycle parts and accessories answer in chat, and their terms are visible side by side, so it is easier to tell a good offer. Your phone number is hidden, and only the seller you choose sees your contacts. More on the “How it works” page.

Also look at other motorcycle accessories, and if you are changing something on the running gear, you may need new footpegs, which are in a neighbouring category.

Questions and answers

How do I know which variator puller I need?

Go by the engine model and the make of the scooter. If you are unsure, say so in the request and sellers will tell you what fits.

A tool set or separate spanners?

For a one-off job a single tool is enough, for regular servicing a set in a case is better value. Look at the material of the sockets and the sizes you really need.

Can I buy a used tool?

Yes, it is often cheaper. Ask for photos and check that the corners and threads are not worn.

Does the buyer pay for BlaBlaPrice?

No, the service is free for buyers. Sellers pay a small fee only when you choose them.
