Garage and car wash equipment: how to buy without overpaying
Start with the premises and the power supply
Equipment for a garage or car wash is chosen for a particular space. Ceiling height, floor strength, the presence of three-phase power, compressor capacity and water supply decide what can be installed at all. A two-post lift of 4 tonnes needs a strong concrete floor, and a self-service wash needs drainage and, in cold places, heating.
Describe this in the request, and on BlaBlaPrice suppliers will suggest solutions with prices themselves. You don't need separate conversations with each equipment shop.
What to put in your request
- equipment — lift, tyre changer, wheel balancer, wheel alignment stand, compressor, high-pressure washer, self-service wash;
- specifications — lifting capacity, power, single- or three-phase supply, wheel size range, pressure;
- brand and model, if you have picked one;
- new or used;
- quantity or bays — how many bays you are equipping;
- installation — foundation, commissioning, training;
- warranty and service;
- delivery city and budget.
Example: “I am opening a 2-bay garage in Johannesburg. I need two two-post lifts of 4 t, three-phase, a tyre changer and a wheel balancer. New, with installation and a 2-year warranty. Budget up to R 49,000.”
Lift, tyre changer and wash: what to look at
For a lift, what matters is lifting capacity with a margin, the type (two-post, four-post, scissor), synchronisation of the posts and certification. For a tyre changer, the wheel size range, including low-profile wheels, and the type of drive. For a car wash, the pressure and capacity of the pump, plus the water treatment and chemical dosing system. Ask about spare parts and service, because equipment standing idle means lost income. For a self-service wash, also find out the payment type: tokens, cards or coins, and whether there is built-in income tracking.
New or used
A used lift or compressor can save money at the start, but check the condition of the hydraulics, cables, motor and the documents. For critical parts where people's safety is involved, new with a warranty is often more reliable.
How to compare offers
Sellers reply in the chat: model, price, what is included, installation, timing. BlaBlaPrice compares the offers and shows the most useful first, with reviews beside the seller. Sellers see where they stand among the others and can improve their terms, for example by adding installation.
- Check the lifting capacity, supply and set: a “cheaper” 3.5 t lift will not replace a 4 t one.
- Ask who does the installation and the foundation, and whether delivery is included.
- Ask about warranty service in your city.
A common mistake is to buy without checking the power supply and the premises. Similar categories are industrial equipment and restaurant and café equipment.
