Fishing and hunting gear: spinning rod, reel, echo sounder
The type of fishing decides the kit
Spinning, feeder, carp fishing and ice fishing need different gear. So “buy me a rod” tells a seller nothing: they need to know where and what you will fish for. A predator in a river, carp in a pond or perch in winter mean different rods, reels and lures. Write in your request what you are fishing for and whether from the bank or a boat.
Test, length, reel
For a spinning rod the main parameters are the length (for example, 2.4 m) and the test, the lure weight the rod is built for (say, 5–25 g). A lure outside the test range casts badly and can damage the rod. A reel is chosen by size: 2500 or 3000 suits a medium spinning rod. For feeder and carp fishing the length and test matter, and so does a sturdy reel with a large spool. The line or braid must match the rod.
Echo sounder and other electronics
An echo sounder is bought for its scanning range, the type of transducer and whether you need a wireless model. Before buying, decide where you will use it: from the bank or from a boat. Ask about the power source, water protection and the warranty. Consider hunting gear in this category separately from firearms: this is about clothing, calls, hides and similar items.
What to put in your request
- what exactly — spinning rod, reel, feeder, lures, echo sounder, landing net, hunting gear;
- purpose — carp fishing, spinning, ice fishing, hunting;
- specifications — length, test, reel size, braid, echo sounder range;
- model, for example Shimano Stradic 2500;
- level — beginner or experienced;
- quantity, condition, budget, delivery city.
Example: “I need a new 2.4 m spinning rod, test 5–25 g, and a Shimano Stradic 2500 reel. For a beginner, fishing for predators from the bank. Courier delivery to Central, budget up to HK$750.”
How to compare offers
You write one request and sellers reply in the chat with prices, what is in the package and delivery. Compare by length, test and reel size, not just the brand. Well-known makes such as Shimano have many fakes, so ask for photos of the markings and serial number. For used gear, ask about reel play, the state of the rod guides and chips. Choice is widest before the season, so order ahead. Also see water sports and camping and hiking.
